I especially love the detail about Kio not feeling the drive to hide any of his truth. He's such a beautifully open character and that's what I love about him, and contrasted against L's calculating, hidden nature (which, incidentally, is what I love about him), you've made this a lovely little piece.

You know, this pairing was awfully fun to write ... and surprisingly easy. Kind of like what I suppose Yuki and Shuichi were supposed to be like in Gravitation ... one all secrets and brooding, the other all bouncy. Just L's not a nasty old twit, he's just calm and logical, and Kio's not annoying and self-centered, he's just full of life. I'm thinking about working on more fiction of them, see if I can't warm them up into an original pairing, because seriously, they just don't work as fanfiction. Not really.
I mean, seriously, can you imagine L with ears? I totally can.
And you totally don't need an icon anymore, because I was really bored and wanted to sharpen my photoshopping skillz. Props if you can find the *actual* images from whence I made this icon ... ^_~

Uuurrgh, Shu/Yuki. The manga makes me understand a bit better why they don't just kill each other and be done with it, but only a bit. They're just so incompatible and, yeah, it's all sweet and stuff to say that love is blind, but come-the-hell-on. I lean more toward Yuki in my personality and if I had to spend all of my home time with someone so...bouncy and whiny and omg with the crying, I think I'd strangle him with his shiny pink hair. And Yuki is an insensitive jerk most of the time. /ramble
So, yes. Kio/L pulls off the odd-couple thing in a way that makes me squee. Much like Ban/Ginji from GetBackers. They're opposites in personality, but so genuinely affectionate and amiable with each other. They use their differences to their advantage to help them see different points of view and such.

I didn't make it all the way through Gravitation, and I couldn't stand the manga, either. Yuki needs to be with someone strong and sensitive, not so utterly self-obsessed. I think that's my biggest problem with that canon ... neither of them cares half a shit for anyone but themselves.
Ban/Ginji ... now THAT is a pairing that just melts me every time I think about it. And you're so right, L and Kio are very similar to them. L cares very deeply for Kio, in his own way, and Kio just adores L to pieces (you can definitely see me leaking through his character there. I'd kiss L all the time, if I were Kio.)
Mist3r Quickly makes good sushi, and Jaspercat's a good snuggle. We'll keep her with us and let Mist3r Quickly and mister_pistil go do the yaoi thing ... in the room with surveillance cameras. ^_~
