Photo sharing sites?

May 18, 2008 22:18

I want to post some photos! I know that there are several sites on which one can do so, like Flickr, Photobucket, and Picasa (and probably many more). Which, if any, do you use? Which do you recommend? is there some other technology to show people photos that all the hip kids are now using? Do tell!

Here's me on flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bikeymcgreenbeans.

I prefer picasaweb (http://picasaweb.google.com/vera.leone), but my family uses flickr, and so ... In any case, can't vouch for the hipness of either, but they get the job done, no?

Hey, getting the job done is a good thing!

So, you mention that your family uses flickr--does one need an account or anything to see flickr pics?

With flickr you can set different photos to be public or just for family/friends. I have both kinds. I don't think you need an account to view public photos. To get your own flickr account (and then get added to someone's contact list and see their private-ish photos) you do need a Yahoo ID.

Rex returned the compliment. He told me himself. ;)

Good to know--thanks. I have a Yahoo ID, so that's not a problem.

And gee, maybe when I'm back in the country, Rex and I should get a drink...

I use flickr, but I'm sure there's new hip technology that I am completely unaware of. Flickr is pretty easy to use, however, even for old farts like me.

i use flickr too, i like that photos can be creative commons if you want, and that you can make some of them private for friends and/or family who are members.

Cool! Like I asked truthlion, how does this membership thing work?

however, you can also make photos public and send those links to anyone, or post them places.
plus flickr will even set up to post pics to lj or other bloglike things.

I'm on flikr, so that would be great if you joined, I post my art there, and I like that it gives you updates on your friends uploads and you can control the privacy... Never tried any of the others...find me if you join!

Thanks, E! Flickr seems like a unanimous favorite in the comments here.

I also use Flickr, which is basically Yahoo. I second Picasa's awesomeness, especially if you want to do any photo editing, but you do need to download a program to get access to its mad powers. On the other hand, if you've already sold your soul to Google, it's kind of handy.
