WTF . . . I hate when people use that argument against the lion king. It's RACIST because the hyenas have ethnic voices and it's SEXIST because the main character is Simba! Who is not a girl! DDD:
Young Nala's VA was black as was Mufasa's [obviously]. And Rafiki's and Sarabi's, which outweighs the Hyena's ethnic-voice-count by at least 2. But people are paranoid, and thus, that counts for nothing. XD I mean seriously, where do people get that from?
And obviously, the Hyenas' VAs AGREED to play them.
It's more racist that they pay so much attention to it. XD
And they obviously haven't even bothered to listen to the TLK audio-commentary. "Seeds of romance blossoming in the savannah" scene. Oh my, I am a nerd. 8D and it's FUN.
How is Disney sexist? They're all based on fairy tales. You can't really BLAME Disney for that.
Ha, I knew that you'd be the first (or perhaps only, lol) to reply. ^^
But yeah, seriously, right? Dumb argument.
I don't think they could have listened to the audio commentary since I think they made this movie in like, hrm... late nineties. Before the special edition DVD came out. But still. RARGH.
Agree'd with the fairy tales thing. Maybe these people are just paranoid because Disney is such a huge company, that because maybe some fairy tales are sexist or whatever, they're reaching millions of children throughout the world. Like, it's acting like a catalyst or something.
And I'll admit, movies like Peter Pan are racist/sexist, but that was a) the mindset back then, and b) how the actual play was written. And I don't see people harping on the play. I'm not saying Disney is completely off the hook with that movie or that it's OK that it was the mindset back in the fifties, but still.
