I enjoyed this very much! Bates was a character who, unlike Kavanagh, elicited a certain interest and respect from the fans. He was brittle, yes, but he had depth and strength, and I always felt there was more to his journey. I'm disappointed the writers didn't see fit to explore it further.
This was very much in character for Teyla. She has a great capacity to love, to forgive, and to make an effort to see beyond her paradigm, and I think you captured those aspects of her perfectly. Loved the Athosian "cultural" insights, and particularly enjoyed the bits about Teyla wanting to be up front with Bates about the truth of their past friction. Another thing that seems very in character for her. Bravo! Would you be perhaps willing to write a companion piece where she does disclose said details? No pressure of course, but I'd be highly interested in reading it. :-) I could totally visualize the face-off with John, too.
I too always wondered what happened to Bates and how he would percieve Teyla after the fact. This was an interesting concept.
Also the aspect of flithy Bates made for a nice highlight: Teyla - ” he said almost flirtatiously, deliberately using her given name, “You might as well call me Eugene, since we're both off-duty.”
I really like the thought of Teyla and Bates facing off in a completely new setting but still having charismatic interaction. And throwing in some Sheppard/Teyla was just the cherry on top! Thanks.
Wow, amnesia fic! It's so fascinating to see Bates meet Teyla under circumstances so very different, and what a difference it makes! And I love that Teyla wants to be honest with him about their history. Such a cool story - thank you!
