Thanks, this is beautiful. I'm all teary and snuffly. Love the way you made Chuck remember Carson, and he should have played the tuba, bugger what the rest of the lot thought.

As to why they got rid of him, the actor appears to be allowed to talk about it now. He admitted in a recent magazine interview that it was pretty much to try and boost their failing ratings!

It's probably my favourite line, so desperately sad as it is, though I wasn't sure if I was going too far with that one. I really wanted that to be in there, just because you know it could have been so different - it's one of those horrible "what if" thoughts people would be having after the fact.
