Entertainment Weekly names Supernatural as one of the 25 top cult TV shows of all time. YAY!
For each show, there's a "why it's cult" statement. Now for most shows its about the quirky/bizarre. innovative nature of the show. For more than a few its that it was cancelled before its time. Fandom is mentioned primarily in relation to being "small but passionate" and in reference to campaigns to save the show.
Only the Supernatural fandom is picked out for OUR creativity:
Why It's Cult: Because some members of the show's small but passionate fanbase have taken to writing fan fiction. And any show that inspires people to want to continue the heroes' adventures on their own time qualifies as cult. (We'll not mention that some of that fan fiction has the Winchester brothers doing things that brothers shouldn't be doing. It's called ''Wincest.'' Nuff said, ja?) -Marc Bernardin
Of course this sorta makes it sound like we invented fan fiction or that only these rarefied cult shows have fanfic written about them. I am tempted to send them in some American Idol porn. Oh mainstream press you are so sweetly dumb in your ignorance. Although *points to icon* we're not the only ones writing the Wincest ;D
but seriously I think that's a lovely summary of our fandom. EW should do our PR for us all the time.
