FIC: After Hours, NC-17 (something a little different: original homoerotica)

Here's something a trifle different - original homoerotica, set in contemporary times. I have been toying with the idea of self-publishing an anthology of historical homoerotic fiction, starting with the Middle Ages and ending in the present day. This would the last story in the collection, set in modern times. I'd love to know what you think. Are ( Read more... )

I think this is the only comment I have ever seen asking permission not not to read the post. Of course, no obligation to read anything on my LJ! Anyway I would self-publish so I'd be in a different category than Erastes who, as far as I know, is published commercially.

You're as good at this as ever, but the sex starts way too soon. We aren't really given a reason to care about their relationship, and they're already doing it - and Colin is calling him "honey," which seems to imply some measure of affection, which we haven't really been shown either. So a little more backstory would help. As to the project - hell yes I'd buy it!

Hm, and I thought it was too long. It is still marked as a PWP so I don't plan to keep working on it unless I get to the point where I want to self-publish it along with others, at which point your comments will be very helpful. Thanks for reading and leaving feedback!

This was simply delightful. The mention of a wife was a bit uncomfortable unless this was going to go polyamorous but the action *smiles* was great.

Thank you! I guess Colin is polyamorous, but really his wife just doesn't mind sharing him with men. I don't envision her being so open about sharing him with other women. This attitude is not completely unheard-of. I don't know why I made Colin bisexual, just sort of felt like making one of them bi. Anyway, I'm grateful for your feedback, thanks again!

I'd suggest keeping it all in one person's POV. I found the head-hopping confusing. Omniscient third is a bugger to get right - I won't even attempt it! ;)

And I'd second the comment about giving us more story - it's much more interesting to read about two people you care about having sex, than about two strangers.

This is a key way in which original fic differs from fanfic - a fanfic PWP is hot because the reader already knows and loves the characters. In original fic, the author needs to make the reader have an emotional response to them.

But I think the anthology idea is definitely intriguing - it'd be great to see the changing ideas, circumstances and attitudes through history. Would you have some kind of connection between the stories - say, geographical, professional, etc?

Yeah, that was me being all experimental and whatnot. I guess it didn't succeed.

No, I hadn't planned to have any connection between the stories, just historical fics spanning centuries. However, I am also tossing around all sorts of other ideas for self-publishing, like writing a full-fledged erotic novel with Colin and John (don't worry, I'd pick a POV!) or a set of Sherlock Holmes slash stories. I guess for now, I'll just keep fan-ficcing.

Thank you, I'll see if I can fix that. Thanks for reading and commenting.
