do you think you could get a dehydrator? Or a blender? There's some natural stuff that you can mix up that might be better.

kale chips made in the dehydrator are a delicious snack. i like dried mangos myself. i had to figure out what i liked to eat and then figure out what was a good substitute for that.

You could make smoothies with fruit in them instead of the milkshakes. maybe replace the milk with almond milk or soy milk? That's protein and you can get the vanilla flavor that's pretty tasty so long as you're not drinking it straight. Lyn said she puts a little bit of greens, like kale or spinach, in the smoothies because she hates eating them raw but you can't taste it the way she makes them. I like the Bolt farm? I think it's called? soy protein shake thingy.

there's also brown rice pasta instead of whole grain... that might be more palatable.

heh heh, I actually put "Invest in a dehydrator" on my to-do list. Ryan and I both like jerky and I was looking into making dried fruit for our own trail mix and muesli. I do have a blender, I don't break it out often, but smoothies are a great idea! With yogurt and almond milk maybe instead of ice cream.

Kale chips sound amazing. I've had those Veggie Chips (And Fruit Ones OMG), but never thought to try making them at home.

I like Bolthouse Farms too (Vanilla Chai :9), and I'll get them when they're on sale, but they're usually really expensive. Maybe I can figure out how to make them at home? Protein powder is pretty cheap, add vanilla soy milk and pre-made chai tea = PROFIT?

Smoothies! Smoothies smoothies smoothies. Use yogurt. Real cow dairy is not actually evil (UNLESS you're intolerant.) Yogurt is good for your innards. Spinach smoothies are amazing for your innards but everyone looks at me like I'm insane. (They're good! Like, a handful or two of spinach...)

I buy these items:
the big cheap gallon of OJ
whichever vanilla yogurt is cheapest
bags of assorted frozen fruits (I like strawberry-pineapple heavy ones, some blueberry and peach, moreso than raspberry-heavy ones)
bag of spinach

SO EASY TO MAKE, although your first ones will not be perfect until you get the hang of ratios. (Alternately, you could measure. I just eyeballed it and choked down a few weird ones at first.)

Smoothies are not actually low-cal, but they're sweet and delicious and instead of say, CORN SYRUP AND WHITE SUGAR you're ingesting tons of nutrients.

Kale chips are good. Kale in general is good. Those puffy delicious Veggie Chips (that come in orange, yellow and green?) are pretty fattening, although still better than regular.

FUCK THE EVERYTHING IS FINE TEST. Did they check allllllll your thyroid? The parathyroid? I was deficient in Vitamin D (no big deal!) and it turns out that might be actually a big deal. You know. After five years of this crap ( ... )

chickpea meal! instead of cornmeal. chickpea meal is gluten free, but i have no idea what fat/carb content it has because i can't even find it near where i live, and if i have to go more than a block away for it, it ain't happenin'. because yeay anxiety disorders.

BUT ANYWAY chickpea meal = polenta = pasta? :D ?

instead of pastas, have you tried using spaghetti squash as a base for noodley dishes? or something like http://www.house-foods.com/tofu/tofu_shirataki.aspx? i feel like pasta is just... not worth it when i'm trying to lose weight.

have you tried counting calories? i really believe it is the best way to lose weight. anyway, good luck... you can do it!!!

Spaghetti squash is kind of hard to find around here sadly, and we're limited to what turns up at ALDI and Kroger's (no car). Pasta may have to be the First Thing to give up :/ It's hard because it's so cheap, and I base so many meals around starchy, filling things.

I used to keep track of stuff I ate at SparkPeople, because they had an app that added everything up for you: protein, calories, fat, carbs etc. It was kind of complicated though, because you had to delete their meal suggestions, and if you weren't using recipes from Cooks.com to the letter, then you had to hunt through a ginormous list of stuff for one ingredient at a time. One of our coworkers had a calculator from Weight Watchers that seemed a lot easier.
