Hah, I've always been torn on Ani Difranco... there are some songs I really do love (Imperfectly!), but there are a lot that completely miss the mark with me. I have a good family life, and, quite honestly, I've never really had any issue/angst with dating the people I date. :P And her fanbase was so... very... passionately teenaged. Cough.
Plus, her newer jazz-influenced stuff I just really dislike musically; I'm a folk girl all the way.
But I still like a lot of her early work... and Natalie Imbruglia, Paula Cole, Sarah McLachlan, Jewel; I am a TOTAL nineties-folk-girl-Lilith-Fair-stuff girl, it's true. XD
(Jewel was actually one I came around on; I HATED "You Were Meant for Me" when it got radio play, but a friend forced me to sit down and listen and realize most of her songs are about social issues and not unrequited luuuuuuuuv.)
No! Of course not! There's nothing wrong with wanting to be stunning in a beautiful way rather than a shocking way! Or... I'm going to keep telling myself that. Do like I'm going to do and get a tattoo, and then maybe you'll feel better about the whole thing! ^__^
Yes... like I said about the signature looks, it's kind of weird; I find myself rebelling against the very idea that I'm expected to look any certain way, even pink. Alternative societal expectations are still societal expectations. (I think I will probably do pink tips, though; I think I'm happy with mostly brown, but with a little bit of pink. XD)
Oh, actually, that's on my list! I've never liked (for me) the idea of getting a tattoo just to have one... but I want to get little pink stars over my bloodwork and surgery scars: turn something negative into something positive and all that.
I don't *believe* so. I thought I only brought my Kindle, and then I bought that one book at the store. I got home with both though... what book is it?
Along the same lines though... did you find an off-white bra that doesn't seem to belong to anyone else? ^^;
Hmmm...no but then again I haven't cleaned. The book is called Escape and it's about mormons, I think. I mean, my roommate used to be mormon, but he doesn't read. He just smokes weed and wear brand.
I like Dar Williams but never really got into Ani either. And I'm so-so on Tori Amos... almost all of my friends were passionate Tori and Ani fans so I kind of felt bad for not really liking either of them... ^^;;
I really despise Tori Amos... I didn't want to say so in my post lest I get attacked by her fans. I can respect that other people like her, but she really just doesn't resonate with me.
Tori Amos is just.... Idunno, sometimes TOO much for me, though I do like some of her songs. Reminds me of how I didn't like Regina Spektor until her most recent album... which a lot of her fans think of as a poppy sellout album. But I like it better. : P
Btw if you like Dar Williams, have you heard of Missy Higgins? You might enjoy some of her stuff, it reminds me a bit of some of Dar's... but I don't know if she's popular in the US at all (she's Australian). I really liked Missy Higgins until I got a bit overloaded on her songs because it was the only decent CD at the shop I used to work at so I'd play it like... all day long. : P
