More of the Ryan Sloan!Verse, Ryan and Mark get to Seattle Grace. I threw my very own Nurse Cassie into the mix as a Pediatrics nurse, because I love her... lol...

The OC/Grey's Anatomy - Seattle Grace

There had been some sort of minor emergency, so Arizona wasn't there to meet them at the back entrance of the hospital, but when Mark rolled Ryan's wheelchair out of the elevator onto the Pedes floor, there was a nurse waiting for them.

"She told me not to move until you got here, Dr. Sloan," Cassie said. "Ryan, right?"

"Yeah," Ryan replied, shaking her hand.

"We've got a room set up for you, private because no fourteen year-old wants to room with a six year-old who ate his crayons," Cassie said. "Dr. Robbins wants you to have a little time to rest, since the flight and then traffic had to be rough, but she'll be in to check on you as soon as she can, and tomorrow morning at the latest she'll get you in for the more stressful tests. I am going to take your temperature, blood pressure, some blood..."

"Fourth time with Leukemia diagnosis, and since this is a new hospital, it's my fifth time going through admission details," Ryan pointed out. "I know the drill."

Cassie smiled. "Sorry, I'm used to patients, and their parents, who don't know and get upset if we don't outline every little thing."

"Ryan's pretty up on his status," Mark replied. "He's probably better at reading charts than I am."

"Is that how you ended up giving a woman a nose job instead of an eye-lift?" Cassie asked, grinning when Ryan laughed.

"I'll have you know I've never done that," Mark protested before leaning down. "I did consider a free boob job to go with the eyes, though," he whispered.

"Very mature, Dr. Sloan," Cassie said as she led them into a room. "Here we are," she said. "Luxury accommodations for our VIP."

"Hey, the blanket doesn't have loose threads and you actually talk to me instead of ignoring me while you stick needles in me," Ryan said. "Definite step up."

"The hospital in Chino sucked," Mark added, putting down the railing on the bed then moving back to let Ryan transfer himself, even though he hated the pained look on Ryan's face.

"On a scale of one to ten..." Cassie began.

"About six or seven," Ryan said, knowing what she meant. "It's been a lot worse, but... it hurts pretty bad."

Cassie nodded. "Okay, I need to do the basics first, before we put anything in your system, but I will get it done fast," she promised. "And then something for the pain."

~~~
It was awhile before Arizona made it to Ryan's room, and when she did, the teenager was asleep, curled on his side with the thick blanket pulled up over his shoulders. "Sorry it took so long," she whispered as she closed the door behind her.
"The trip took a lot out of him," Mark replied. "Have you gone over his file?"
Arizona nodded. "The doctors down there need to reread the Hippocratic oath," she said. "They should have done tests a long time ago."
"So, you think I'm right?"
Arizona nodded again. "I won't know for sure until I get an X-Ray and an MRI, but... from the description? Looks like Osteosarcoma in the hip."
"What are the odds?"
"Depends on how big the tumor is," Arizona said. "If it's small enough, he has a good chance, but if it's too big..."
"If it's too big he'll be more comfortable here than he was there," Mark said.
Arizona sighed. "I need to figure out how big the tumor is before we plan the transplant. If he's physically strong enough, it might be best to take care of both at once, put his body through less stress in the long run, get him healthy faster, out of the hospital... that is part of the plan, right?"
"Of course it is," Mark said. "I've got an extra room at my place, I'm gonna scrub it top to bottom for the good of his immune system, figure out what the hell the kid likes and get him some stuff for his room."
"Good," Arizona said. "Cassie said he has quite the personality."
Mark chuckled. "Yeah, he does. I'm telling you now, unless it's seriously bad news, just tell him what's going on, don't ask my permission, just... tell him. He knows exactly what treatments he's had and why he doesn't get those anymore, he knows more about his condition than probably anyone but a specialist does. He's a kid, but... I think he has a right to know what's going on, unless it's majorly bad, then I want to be here when you tell him/"
"Deal," Arizona agreed. "Now, can I talk you into at least going to get some food and change your clothes?" she asked. "Because you know how it goes, Mark. You need to take care of yourself so you can take care of him. And you need to make sure you don't do anything to keep him from getting that bone marrow."
"I know," Mark said. "I just... he's been handling this alone for so damn long..."
"From what Cassie told me, I doubt he'll hold it against you if you eat, shower, and put on clean clothes."
"Now I have to shower?" Mark said with a grin.
