I read due South fanfic for months, maybe a year before I ever saw one episode of the series. So it’s safe to say that I don’t care much about the canon, one way or another. Neither of them is very self-aware. Further neither of them communicates directly. Fraser's remote and Ray expresses a lot of emotion but it’s a cover for other emotions he’d never share willingly.
Hmm, but maybe Fraser's perceptive enough to see through Ray's cover? Like, Ray lets it slip sometime without even noticing -- his hand lingers on Fraser's shoulder too long, or his gaze catches on Fraser's tongue when he's licking his lip (because how could it not?) and then Fraser clues in?
Or maybe something happens that makes Ray re-evaluate things, makes him realise what he wants? *looks hopeful*
