Mexico pretty much sucks

So, Brandon's girlfriend Paula wanted to go to Mexico last weekend, so we did. I had no desire in addition to having to write a paper this weekend, but I was promised cheap clothing and at least it was a "good experience" so off I went.

Right off we get there and it's just so incredibly sad. You think we have problems with the poor? Go to Mexico

Where in Mexico did you guys go? Border towns are sad, but the heart of Mexico is desperate. I lived in Guadalajara for a brief period of time and it really changed my opinion on poverty and need. And of course, in typical American fashion, I tried to scrub my brain clean and bury my head in the sand. I don't even think it has to do with us reacting in an "American" fashion - if I know you like I know myself, we have a very sincere martyr complex stowed away in our little selves that makes us want to take on all the pain in the world so that no one else has to. And since we can't, the next most viable option is to wallow. Siiiiiigh. I'm sorry your weekend consisted of that.

On 30 Days they had a guy who was a border patrol man go live with a family of illegal immigrants. They showed where they used to live in Mexico and it was just really sad. It's a hot issue in Texas (since we border Mexico), but the fact is if any one of the people who say "They shouldn't come here" had ever seen how they actually lived in Mexico, they'd welcome them with open arms
