This time pairs and men's short program. Oh 2010-2011 season, I'm in love with you already. I already know they final ranking of all the competitors except the men, but I'll play dumb and only talk about the short programs. My next post will be a monster with my reactions to the free programs and dances for all the fields

It is not that you do not understand ISU judging, (no one does) it is that ISU judging can be completely arbitrary at times depending on judges personal preferences. I agree with you and think Jeremy should have scored higher than Daisuke, I also think Florent should have gotten more points and I'm pretty sure he's in chaps because he's skating to music from 'Once upon a time in Mexico' so he's some sort of fabulous sparkly cowboy on ice.
I think that Daisuke needs to burn his shirt and get something else but I am loving his sassy diva hair.

I took a look at a lot of the judging protocols and I can see why Stephane and Johnny were very "Go to hell, CoP!" by the end. It gives you enough numbers and wiggle room that someone could ARGUE that this is a factual, quantitative representation of things, but no one in the world could look at Daisuke's PCs and think, "Makes sense." Ugh. I don't know if I should learn more and get more frustrated or remain in the dark.
Florent's choices this season are just 100% pure, concentrated lols and awesome. Love him.
Daisuke gets full points for the hair, but that shirt. Where did he even find it?

Florent Amodio's costume was a little insane but he did a great job. I'm loving Yuzuru Hanyu and his commitment to sparkly, feathery, bird-inspired onesies! I agree about the Beillmann spin - it's one of my least favorite spins because it slows everyone down so much and it always looks awkward to me. I love Daisuke a lot and I thought his skating was good, but everything about that program from the costume to the music to the choreography was kind of cheesy. I wish he had done Stephane's program too (not that I'm biased or anything!)

Yuzuru and Florent totally stole the show from me. Even away from Jeremy Abbott and Daisuke who I expected to pay the most attention to. They were just so fresh and fearless! And I do like the man!Beillmann some times, but it seems tricky and I'd rather a fast, less bendy spin than a bendy, slow spin. Again, the Johnny school of judging. Something simpler but well done makes me happy than something hard but barely completed.

YES. A million times yes. I'll take aesthetics over difficulty any day.
I mean, I know they have to do the more difficult moves for the points, and I don't want everyone to just do boring simple moves and not try anything new, but still! I want it to look pretty too!
