FIGURE SKATING GRAND PRIX SEASON OF AWESOME HAS BEGUN! Behold my knee-jerk reactions to the top 5 (and 8th ;_____;) ladies short program and top 5 ice dancing short dance scores.

As part of my 'make adult choices' crusade I did not stay up until 2am to watch this and so these will be incomplete/selective... )

I felt so awful for Mao! I was surprised by how much I enjoyed Kanako and Ashley, though, and ice dance was amazing. Meryl/Charlie are so much better than everyone, it's ridiculous, and the Shibs were tragically adorable and Ilinykh/Katsalapov were rather well done (I loved their costumes, anyway. I am so shallow). I AM SO GLAD THE NEW SEASON IS UPON US.

I know. Poor Mao. She must have felt so much pressure performing at home.

On your recommendation I went back and watched Ashley's performance and you're right. It's very winning. And her costume is phew! Amazing. I would be happy if she edged out Rachael in the free, for third place, but I'm no 100% convinced it'll happen. Who knows! The ladies event seems full of surprises.

This is my first season and already I fear for my job productivity! Thank god events are spaced out!

I also made the adult choice of not staying up to watch dance, but I woke up at 6:30 to catch the ladies, hee.

Ugh I was so upset about Mao. She looked so beautiful, and I love her music choice, but that program was a disaster, nothing else. She looked crushed, too, after hearing the scores.
:( Hopefully she can redeem herself a little in the free, although I don't see her making the podium.

Meryl&Charlie were great.

I am so excited about the men. So SO excited.

I sincerely hope Mao's season takes a turn for the best ASAP. But yeah, I don't think it'll be at NHK. :(

Meryl and Charlie are flawless. I'm so expecting that they're going to just smoke every event up until Worlds.

I am BESIDE myself about the men. The field is SO DEEP I can't even think about how things will shake out. I'm going to be peeking through my fingers at Hanyu's short program. I sooooo hope he just lays down the fierceness and doesn't let nerves get to him. But what then? The Jeremys and Daisuke and Florent and it's going to be hard to see someone in fifth place no matter who it is.

Finally started catching up on the first round of NHK!

Meryl and Charlie! I love how they just fly around the rink and how their choreography is always so interesting and creative. They are just in a completely different class from everyone else. LOVE THEM. I also really enjoyed Anna Cappellini and Luca Lanotte. Their program was so fun and charming! Elena Ilinykh and Nikita Katsalapov were ok but I did like the costumes and that one lift they did.

I think I might love Kanako Murakami. She's such a little firecracker and I love the speed she has, especially compared to the other ladies. The choreography and the costume were too pageant-y for my tastes, but she was just adorable. And Kiira Korpi is ridiculously gorgeous and no matter what else she does, I will always love that she did that Beyonce number with the tear-away sparkly cop uniform and handcuffs. So amazing.

Aw, Mao. ;__;

There is so much stuff to catch up, my goodness. For my first event I'm kind of floored by how much material there is I'm IGNORING.

Meryl and Charlie are the best. It's kind of insane. I think we should all try to be as elegant as Meryl Davis. But maybe that would be cruel as well, since it's an utterly impossible goal.

Kanako was so adorbs! I am so impressed with her senior debut. She didn't just debut, she like came out and kicked her debut's ass. I wish I had that kind of confidence!

And Maooooooo. I hope she rests and recovers. I'm sure she's a huge fighter.

This is the first time I've watched Grand Prix events too and it's a little overwhelming. I've still only had a chance to watch all the short programs!
