How about A Density of Souls by Christopher Rice? It's an amazing read...though you may be put off by the gay themes. In all honesty, I was at first, simply because I thought that there was no way I could relate to the story. But, and I can't explain this, that doesn't seem to matter in this book. It's complex, with many interweaving stories and everything flows beautifully together. In the end, it didn't really seem to matter. The story was THAT good.

I know you said you weren't buying any new books because of money, but I'm done with my copy and I could send it to you if you were interested enough. Let me know. :)

strange stories do not throw me. the book i just finished circled around an albino hunchback whose child (born with a tail) was conceived through the telekinetic powers of her brother with the sperm of her other brother. so no worries, nothing will throw me now!!!

and i would love to read it. i'll send you goodies in return (a mix tape and random little things). word! just e-mail me your address and i'll return with mine. THANKS!
