Homeplot: Extra Innings

Mar 28, 2011 19:22

Sean wakes to a dull, throbbing pain in his shoulder, and he spends a few long moments trying to figure out whether he expected that or not before realizing that it doesn't really matter. His eyes snap open a moment later, though, already knowing what's going to greet him: a darkened room that isn't their own, familiar only because of its ( Read more... )

It takes a few moments before Meredith starts to give in, though she tries to roll away first. "What?" she asks, slowly forcing her eyes open. He sounds like he's trying to wake her up for a reason, but that only barely gets through, just enough for her to finally make herself turn toward him. They're still in the hotel, which is somewhat unexpected, but for the moment, that only suggests she's entitled to more sleep.

"We're still here," Sean says, still whispering as if it makes any difference now that he's already woken her up. "Slept all damn day."

"No," Meredith says, not displeased so much as uncertain. She's talked about it, thought about it, wanted it, but she's still barely awake, not enough to consider what this really means. "Did we? Are we really?" That's evident enough from their surroundings, but she's not sure she believes it yet, that she isn't still just dreaming.

"Certainly looks t'be that way," Sean says, smiling in spite of the way this has the potential to complicate things. He's not about to let his perspective on it change any, but if this lasts a bit longer than expected, it might get tricky. Reaching back, he grabs the clock off of the bedside table and pulls it close, squinting in the dark to read it. "Bleedin' hell, it's nae long 'fore the sun'll come up."

It's well past noon by the time Sean gets back to the hotel, and while he's been going nonstop since dawn, all he really has to show for it is a small bag from a nearby department store and a wallet. Not wanting to change until he's showered, he's just got a new jacket thrown on over his ruined clothes, and he still cuts a mighty shabby figure. Fortunately, he doesn't care about any looks that he garners except for the one waiting on the other side of the entrance to room 617, and he pounds hard on the door in his haste to get in.

"Fresh linens, ma'am?"

Meredith hasn't exactly been worried. There's a lot to get done and he's clearly more than capable of taking care of himself and she doesn't think one of them would get sent back without the other, especially since this is his world. Still, by the time he gets back, it's a bit of a relief to hear him. Besides, there's only so much she can do with herself once she's showered and ordered far more food than seems strictly necessary, wearing one of the robes she found so conveniently. "Oh, no," she says, hurrying over to open the door, "I think we're fine in here. Fancy seeing you again. I was starting to think you just ran off."

"Without me better half?" Sean asks with a whole lot of false innocence, kissing her cheek as he walks through the door. "Perish the thought." Depositing the bag of purchases on the bed, he takes off his jacket and lays it down as well, all too eager to finally get out of his filthy clothes.

"I don't know about better," Meredith says, grinning as she follows after him to see what he's brought back, peering into the bag and then pulling things out. "There's food, as promised, though I assume you want to clean up first. I don't think I used up all the hot water, but it was a close call."
