people say they're having less babies because singapore is becoming more competitive, but is that really a product of society? surely you have the freedom to decide what you want, or rather, what you want for your kids, in life?

a colleague of mine told me that her son learnt to speak at quite an early age (1.5 years, which is pretty normal lah, i ( Read more... )

heheh..
i think that some of the classes/activities that they have for kids these days are so cool! if i had the time i'd want to bring E for more. but i think there's a difference between pushing them for things just for the sake of it, and signing them up for say swimming classes cos they love swimming, know what i mean?

i love the grandmomma thing :D

my sister faced the same problem as you. all my cousins were sending their kids to this class and that class. it's always chinese new year when this kind of things happen cause everyone meets up and talks about their kids.

my mother said to my sister- work out what you think are important skills that you want your kid to acquire. if you think reading and writing are the most important- the by all means send him to all the classes you want. but if you think that socialising with other kids or sharing his toys is important, send him to day care for half a day 2-3 times a week so he can meet other little people. if you want him to be sporty, then take him swimming etc.

My mother also did say- give him a bit of a childhood. Learning is life-long, and it's going to be pretty intensive when he starts school properly. :) and kids learn everything and anything, even when they are not in class as evidence by my nephew's quick adoption of words like 'hell' and 'damn' *sigh*

yah my mother very wise. she did raise 4 kids with completely different personalities. she has always known when to encourage our interests (piano for me and my sister) and stop something she knew we hated (ballet for me, piano for my brothers ahahah)

oh, as for learning to speak at 1.5 years, i started speaking at 6 months. :P my mother said- i knew who to pander to. my first words were 'gong gong' hahahah
