Chuck had been getting those obnoxious texts all freaking day at work, and it wasn't until he walked into the living room to see John sitting on his couch that he actually believed them.

"I thought you were pulling some cruel, ridiculously early April Fool's joke," he said, frowning. "But now I see you weren't kidding about showing up."

He guessed Nate was the one that told security it was okay to let John take the elevator to the penthouse. What an idiot.

"Kidding would be boring," John pointed out. "And would mean I was trapped in town with the potential of another week as a zombie or half-lobster creature. Who even knows at this point." See, he preferred Chuck's company to transformation.

"And there wasn't, oh, anyone else in the known universe who would actually enjoy your company until the weirdness was over?" Despite saying that, Chuck had no intention of kicking John out. Instead he tossed his briefcase aside and went to make himself a drink. He'd need it.

John's feelings weren't even a little hurt by that. "And there you go making me not feel welcome. Good thing I welcomed myself," he said, inclining his drink in recognition before taking a sip.
