When OotP came along, I was not in any online fandom and thus, was able to read and enjoy the book in relative peace. I didn't read any reviews/analysis until after I'd finished the book and I waited until my friends/family had finished before discussing it with them. This time around, I know that half the reason I'm looking forward to the book ( Read more... )

I'm not sure how well an organised discussion will work, but I'm totally up for trying. Any ideas?

Well, I've been doing an analysis of OotP with a group of local HP fans of OotP (a chapter a day) and although it's had a few bumps along the way, it's been intriguing for me.

I'm sure there will be several chapter-a-day LJ comms (I already joined one) sprouting up and, depending on the number of the chapters in HBP, that might be a time-consuming and troublesome way of doing it. But I'm wondering about a thematic type of analysis. For example, comments/analysis on new characters, new places, new spells, new deaths *wibbles*, new revelations, things like that. Just an idea.

I imagine that would work. Some sort of community set up. Official weekly themes could be posted and discussed or something. Sounds like a really good idea.

I didn' know exactly how to answer. I think it should be a lot like Sith was. Post your spoilers behind LJ cuts, maybe even say how far you've got in the book. That way you can respond, squee, discuss, read, etc.. if you want or skip if you haven't got that far yet. Does that make sense.

I went back and read everyone's posts after I saw the movie. I was very happy that everyone chose to cut their entries. It was nice to see that everyone cared that much about their friends.

I remember with OotP we all promised not to tell each other anything that we hadn't read yet. We'd ask what chapter we were on and then speak about it. But then I really only knew a couple of my online friends well then, well enough to spoil things.

I'm up for something, discussion, etc.. I can't imagine staying away from LJ the whole time I read. *shudders*

I agree that the cut thing will probably be the easiest way to go for everyone's flist. I just got to thinking that there will probably be so many cross posts and theories flying about that it might be good to organize them. I was just curious if other people had thought of doing something like that or if there was interest in it.

Plus, I wanted to do a poll! *giggles*

Sounds like an interesting idea. ^__^ I do know I plan on not clicking or searching for spoilers. I'll start reading it as soon as I can get my hands on it. ^__^

I'm planning on staying up as late as I can to read it Friday night/Saturday morning and then catching a few hours of sleep, before continuing on. I WILL finish it on the 16th. And then I'll read it again for deeper analysis.

Sounds like what I have planned. Do you have a messenger? AIM, MSN or Yahoo!...?

I do, but I'll email it to you rather than post it here.

I'm not coming back to LJ until I finish reading XD and even then depending on how many posts I would need to catch up - I may not even have time/want to catch up - it all depends on how my reading goes.

For OotP - I didn't check LJ until the Monday/Tuesday after as I didn't finish reading until Sunday night (due to various interruptions) and by then wasn't in the mood to backtrack (probably because of how it ended - wasn't in the mood to discuss - lol)

:D

That's a good point. Depending on who gets knocked off in this book, I may just be in a corner, sucking my thumb and babbling incoherently.

But this re-read of OotP has been intriguing (for me, anyway, maybe not everyone else! LOL) and has me thinking so much more critically of certain characters and passages and foreshadowing. I'm not sure I'm up for another chapter-by-chapter thing like we've been doing, but I would like a bit more interactive analysis. Or maybe I'll just wait for it on FAP.

As for interruptions, I've already warned my family not to even speak to me unless they have lost a limb or are dead. :D

LOL! I put that I'll stay away 24 hours to finish the book, but I'm not sure if it will work. I might come on sooner then that. ^^;; Hopefully I'll be able to finish it in a day and come on right after I'm done.

I'm looking foreword to reading all the discussions and such, and possibly getting into them.

I'm expecting to see "I'M DONE" posts all over the place on the night of the 16th and throughout the day on the 17th.

But I might hide in a corner if Remus dies.
