Heee! I'm so glad you came home to find things done. :D
See, I decided in the end that I think the audience WAS more heavily weighted Republican, in order to balance out the 3-2 liberal-conservative ratio on the panel. I mean, that makes sense, right?
Yeah, I remember thinking at one point, 'Oh, they have more liberals on the panel than conservatives!' and that could have been their thought - to balance it out. Or perhaps they picked more hoping to stir up more debate or challenge the seemingly foregone conclusion that Obama will win.
Or perhaps all of the liberals didn't want to sound like that woman two rows in front of us who was very vocal in her support of Obama.
Yeah. I did hear some facepalming (er, not literally) going on. XD
I think the only things that got me really riled up were that guy in the front row (man, I wanted to smack him) and the female panelist. The male conservative panelist didn't bother me so much, he was pretty much just spouting party line, except for when he said he didn't want nationalized health care because he didn't want to stand in line. Which, a, Obama's program ISN'T nationalized health care and b, well isn't that nice for you that you've got a lot of money and can afford not to do that, but meanwhile, we've got people who die in ER waiting rooms because they can't get in to see a doctor.
ooof.
(but man. the whole argument over redistribution of money and calling him a socialist make me so mad.)
When Cheri Jacobus said that Obama wanted to take money from people who had worked hard to earn and give to people who hadn't earned it, I think quite a few people wanted to jump out of their seats.
I liked that Elizabeth Edwards pressed Chris Cox on whether he also felt the same way, but the statement really just sat there, and as we said last night, that is NOT what Obama wants to do.
I still want to know who that guy was. He was clearly impressed with his own importance and wanted all of us to be too. He's probably just pissing his pants that he won't be able to afford $198K the next time he wants to take out a full page ad in the New York Times.
He bought a yellowish-gold fabric and cut it into big squares. Next, he found a fabric wall hanging that had large pictures of US bills on it and cut them up and hot-glued them to the 'parachute'. Then he found wide canvas ribbon to make the harness. All without a sewing machine. Clearly he needs to be working in the theater. I've known him for nearly 17 years and had no idea he had this sort of creativity.
Didn't see it live, but I'll look to see if I can get it on the (sadly UK-only) BBC IPlayer on the night shift tonight. Theoretically, I should; practically, the system is flaky.
Is it supposed to be shown here on channels that carry BBC World News, although the times they gave us don't really correspond to when it's shown here, so I really don't know. I hope so, though.
