Trip to New York was fine, but everything else is sucking donkey balls right now. And I don't feel like elaborating on that.

But I do have a question. Or maybe it's an observation.

I've been reading hd_holidays fic and have noticed a frustrating trend. Why do fics that are even mildly Epilogue-compliant have to turn Ginny into a shrew or Ron into a jerk ( Read more... )

fic, question

Amen to that! Because writing a bi-curious Harry or Draco is just out of the question, of course. Their partners simply *have* to be jerks for them to venture elsewhere. Gah!

Don't even get me started on the whole concept of "I never even thought of other men until you came along."

It seems like Ron and Ginny are pretty poorly served by authors that prefer Harry or Hermione with someone else, and it's pretty unfortunate. My fav fics are the ones where the canon friendships are still important, even if the relationships are fanon. But that's all too often not the case. I mostly read Ron het, which tends to be mostly R/Hr, and Hermione tends to fare better. I almost never read Hermione with anyone but Ron in large part because of the way Ron is portrayed (Hermione/Snape seems to be the worst). I really wish authors could separate their dislike from the characters but that's not going to happen.

Yes, that's exactly it. It's so obvious when people are projecting their own issues. It really turns me off and makes me want to hit the back button.

Ah, the ever-realistic, "Wait, I, Harry, consider Ginny and Ron to be total wankers! How could I have not realized that until just now?"

WORD. It's really pissing me off. I would name names, but that wouldn't be very nice.
