...And I want a Zeppelin to go with my brass goggles...

It's that time of year again. The trees are in bloom, the blackbirds are singing down by The Chanonry, it's warm enough to go out without a jacket - all of this only means one thing:  WARDROBE OVERHAUL!!!   I have shedloads of clothes, and none of them actually go together, but yet I still seem to have great difficulty bringing myself to get rid of ( Read more... )

Shoot, I always proofread my LJ entries. Sometimes even my comments. >_<

I'd probably go to steamfashion for ideas--I've spent way too much time there the last few days looking for inspiration for the steampunk Barbie project faeriemaiden and I are kind of working on. I guess the jewelry and other accessories you wear can do a lot to make things look a little steamier, gears and clocks and keys and things, and...I don't know, stuff with corset-style detailing or buckles? There are different kinds of steampunk fashion, too, so there are different ways you could go with it (i.e. kind of gothy Victorian, more casual, I don't really know). I suspect top hats could indeed work with a lot of things. Goggles...not sure. I've got glasses too, although if I were to wear goggles, it would probably be part of a specific outfit/costume or for pictures where I wasn't wearing my glasses.

...I need more steampunk icons. Rather, I need steampunk icons, period, because I seem not to have any.

Thanks for the link to steamfashion; I've just added them to Ye Olde Fliste...I'm currently leaning towards goggles in the sense of possibly finding a small pair to use as a hairband, but again, like the top hat, I think they probably have to be worn with confidence or not at all. Please do tell about the steampunk Barbie project; it sounds rather fascinating and subversive (says the girl who used to play Salem Witch Trials with her Barbies - I was maybe not quite a normal child.)
