Life in a cold climate

I am not good with the cold. I am frileuse, a samugariya, the one who turns blue come December and doesn't thaw out until spring. I am, conversely, well adapted for tropical heat. I never thought of my kotatsu as being a foot too short, but now now that I think about it, I do believe you're right. You forgot to mention the heated sake as one of the tricks for surviving a Japanese winter.

Here in Ottawa, we're expecting an overnight low of -19C with flurries tomorrow afternoon. This will add to the 30 cm. of snow we got earlier this week. On the plus side, there's rain coming on Monday and a high of 8C. Did I mention the bus transit strike that's more or less paralyzed the city...for anyone in a car downtown, (and there are thousands who left with no choice but to drive) rush hour's not much of a rush anymore.

Hope you're well!

Ah yes, the heated sake. A difficult one to take into the workplace, mind (unless of course you brought enough for everyone).

I think I would probably perish in Ottawa - that or never leave the house. I'll be in Budapest in the new year and am keeping an anxious eye on the temperature - so far it's still not been in the minuses!

Wow...Hungary, the land of my ancestors. Please enjoy, take memorable photographs, and tell me all about it when you get back. Make sure you bring forints...I believe the Euro is still a few years away.
