I've not made any secret of my love and adoration of Patrick O'Brian's Master & Commander series. I own all of the books -- yes, even 21, which was a lovely present from prof_h -- and the film version on DVD, which was the first DVD I bought when I finally got around to buying a DVD player ( Read more... )

I've lost track of how many times I've read that series end to end. I love the stuff between the battles - the characters are what keep me coming back to the books again and again. Yeah - Sophie grows up and gets a spine, which is fun to read. And there are still bits I forget about until I get to them again and get the giggles...

Yes! I think it was because the first time through, I was busy trying to keep the ship's parts straight. Subsequent trips through have allowed for a better look at the scenery.
