Five things Polito hated about his new job

For seferin."I think he'd walk from Lejeune if he had to," Lorne agreed. Upon his return to Earth, Polito had been named staff secretary to a marine general and his reaction to the phone call asking him if he wanted to go back to Atlantis had been "Sir, I'd hug you if I could." ( here)

Why are we unsurprised that Polito - despite his bookis leanings - has a hard time giving up the "fun" side of being a Marine? Very nice character piece; enjoyed it.

Dave's still at the SGC (twiddling his thumbs) and Mike's in California (twiddling his wife)
I think that comes close to being the most hilarious line I have ever read...

This fic reminded me very much of the show E-Ring (although the officers in E-Ring are army special forces and very much NOT marines). Don't suppose you watched the show? It only lasted for one season and had a horrendous cliffhanger for an ending, but it was a very good season and probably very much your thing.

Anyway, great story, and it's nice to see Polito's point of view- he's my favourite of your Captains!

I've never seen E-Ring. I remember that it was on, but I have a pretty poor record when it comes to actually watching anything.

Glad you liked.

Sometimes, however, my throwaway lines get substance through retconning. :)

Thanks.

Yes but your retconning enriches the story instead of screwing canon.

Yes, you are canon.

Thank you so much for writing! I love this, especially how you've written Polito's new job as very good for what it is, but it's just not Atlantis. I like the push & pull, and I really like how the general knows Matt's not ready to "get off the horse" yet!

It's less that it's not Atlantis than that it's an office job -- he's not ready to put away his toys and close up the toybox.

Thanks.
