Once Upon a Time Musings: The Thing You Love Most

Dec 03, 2011 23:49

I continued my rewatching of Once Upon a Time today, with episode two: The Thing You Love Most.

Despite initially having less to say on this episode, I wrote more notes than I did for the pilot, which must mean I have at least something to comment on. And I do, mostly around Regina/evil!Queen and Mr Gold as well as Mary Margaret Blanchard (who will ( Read more... )

Before I read/respond to this... do you mean spoilers for not-yet-aired episodes, or have you not watched all of the already-aired episodes and don't want those spoiled.

I hate being spoiled without warning, so I want to make sure what you want. :)

Thanks for making sure! I mean any episode that hasn't aired yet. :) I've seen up to episode 5, like most people! I appreciate you checking, very thoughtful!

Okey doke! I have a horrible memory about what things happened in which episodes so I knew if you hadn't seem all the aired ones that I should probably not comment to this post at all. I'd end up accidentally spoilering you xD

I don't like unaired episode spoilers much either. It always makes the episode seem less genuine for some reason to me, haha.

Thanks. :D I know what you mean, especially if you watch all of the episodes in a couple of days like me, it all rolls into one.

I'm with you on that. There's only a handful of shows I like spoilers for and they're continuing dramas so it's a bit different as they don't have a beginning and end the same. Plus, they're not quite as good quality as amazingness like OUAT. <3

I think it's certainly too early too tell whether she's not leaving town because of the curse or simply because of things that simply appear like they're stopping her - but isn't that what the curse is about? Nobody doesn't try to leave, there's just things which keep getting in their way - like with Ruby.

Henry being born outside the town certainly explains his ability to leave, as far as I'm concerned...but Emma is part of the fairytale world (as far as we're aware) and so, arriving in town, does she not end up trapped inside the curse where she would have been had she not been "saved"? I'm still convinced she's trapped there, though it's too early to know for sure.

i really hate spoilers too! i never read them. i think it makes watching whatever show less fun. what's the point if you already know everything? i like being surprised!

also, i loved reading what you had to say about the episode. very interesting! i can't wait for the new one.

Yeah! Agreed! I love the twists and turns of a show like OUAT, there's things, pieces of the puzzle which make it all the more enjoyable finding them out mid-watching.

Thanks! I'm enjoying writing about them - I don't usually do this kind of thing, so it's enjoyable to give it a go.

Yeah! Me too! If the preview comes on at the end of an episode, I'll happily watch it - but any previews on the internet I tend to avoid! Even the written previews can be too much, haha.

I agree, I think perhaps when Rumpel made the curse, maybe he purposefully put his own slant on it in order to ensure his happiness? I know he made a pact with the Queen, but perhaps that was more about getting her on side than anything else.

You've brought up a very interesting question - why would Regina want a son in this world? And really, why would she want the child of the woman who can break the curse? It makes sense that Henry is the the person who Regina loves the most in our!world, whilst Henry Snr is the one the Queen loves the most.

Henry needed to be there really, though, aside from that. He needed to be the reason Emma arrived in the town - so perhaps something completely outside of Gold and Regina is at work? I'm not sure. It's still all so complex and confusing.

I think she knows. She's too calculated to not to know I would think. I can't say for certain because I don't know either but she like seems to enjoy making people miserable and human beings typically don't enjoy others misery....

I have no idea about Mr. Gold though. It's too hard to tell.

It really is hard to tell! Some moments I really do believe she knows, others, I struggle to see how she could possibly.

It just all doesn't add up! For a jigsaw, the pieces don't quite fit, perhaps we just need to wait for more pieces!
