they actually might have fooled me into thinking (almost) everyone dies at the end You are so right, it is all a dream y/y? Because actually they are all OK on the nice barricades they have replaced the rest of the city with and everyone is happy *shines my tinhat also* *g*
The Gavroche medal thing is interesting - I hadn't realised at first that was an innovation for the movie, but I do know now, and I agree it seems a little much. The spin I put on it is that Javert is beginning to realise a sense of relativism, maybe? That he sees Gavroche as having been entirely loyal to the system Gavroche believed to be right - maybe like Javert found his own moral system as a little boy and stuck to it ever since. And then you could argue, using the movie!javert who I agree is more of a woobie, that he's going to find Valjean in the sewer *already* close to cracking, what he wants is for Valjean to solve it all, somehow, like kill him or kiss him but Valjean doesn't (except in my head he DOES) and so that's it, done,

Absolutely! (Well, everyone except for the Thénardiers.)

I think this is is the only way to begin to make sense of it from an in-'verse perspective, but I still think it's a bit much. Oh well, it's not even close to ruining my enjoyment. *g*
exertion of dominance, except not, because actually it's showing how strong and unbreakable VJ is, and J wanting to see VJ be strong, and enjoying it
Yessss, this. Also, more phallic symbols
There's a fab prompt for an AU of that sort over at the kinkmeme -- I do so hope someone will be writing it!
I love that I am not alone in being TOTALLY obsessed with that movie. Most of my RL friends who love Les Miz, have been in the "grumpy about the movie" camp. Mostly because they hate russell crowe or hate the cuts to some of the songs or

Definitely not alone. *g* It made me fannish about Les Mis in a way I've never felt fannish about LM before.
However, Jackman's acting power really comes out in those two songs.
This! His strong, but vulnerable Valjean is just so perfect and he really shines in those passages. (Of course, it doesn't exactly hurt that HJ is just about the Most Gorgeous Man on Earth. *g*)
I also adore the addition of Javert meeting M. Madeleine. Finally Fantine's firing makes sense.
And this. Normally in the musical he just... wanders away, doesn't he? Which is kind of baffling, so whoever wrote the script made a good call, IMO.
During dinner tonight we had a totally eclectic mix of music starting with several different versions of master of the house (a kid favorite) and them moving on to Jesus Christ Superstar so we could listen to Caiaphus's low voice, and then on to Mozart's Don Giovanni so we could listen to another bass, and finally to the matrix soundtrack. That got me thinking - The last time I was seriously writing fan fic was when the original matrix movie came out (not the crap-ass sequels) and how the Les Miz movie has grabbed me in a similar way. The mind boggles.
