...to say nothing of the goofy Z-shaped pendant they call locked hearts or caring hearts or some nonsense...designed by some third rate actress who played a doctor on TV!

I can sorta understand a confused man buying in (literally) to this Crooked Hearts Interlocked nonsense, believing a woman would want it. Buy my friend's 22-year-old now wants one for Christmas from her parents! OMG.

And don't get me started on "We're from the diamond industry and here to tell you how much to spend on an engagement ring." I told you know who if he spent more than a couple of hundred on same I'd be outraged. He was surprised.

Yes, what you spend has little to do with how much she'll like you. How much you THOUGHT ABOUT WHAT SHE'D LIKE is criterion on which a woman bases her appreciation of your gift.
