Just got back from dinner and a movie with my hubby, atticus_rex. Say Happy Birthday!!

We went and (FINALLY) saw RENT!!! Rent is the second musical we went and saw together as a couple - the first, of course, being Kiss Me Kate (with Kathleen York and Rex Smith).

I have not seen the stage performance, but I loved the movie.

Santa Fe really was awesome in the train car. Tom moving around like that was amazing.. he's got skill. I really liked the La Vie Boheme scene and the Tango Maureen scene as well. Also, I'm in love with Mark.

I really wish I could have seen it on stage now though, with the original cast, just to see the differences.

The play is incredible in its own right. I've seen it twice, never with the original cast though.

In the movie, they really emphasized how "untalented" Maureen really is. In the play she's a great singer, because Idina Menzel is a great singer, and it's Broadway. But, she's supposed to be really lousy and totally delusional about it. The performance art scene was hilarious.

If you get a chance to see the play take it.

I'm so glad you finally saw it!! To add to your comments, the scene where Maureen and JoAnne get into a fight and break up was hilarious! I thought the way they set that was perfect--a huge blowout in the middle of their engagement party!!

All in all, the film was authentic and fantastic--hooray for the producers that made this happen!! I can't WAIT for it to come out on DVD!!!

And of course, thanks for taking me with you to see the musical so many years ago... That's the last musical I've seen! (YIKES!)

:-)
