I know that when my grandad died my parents hired a solicitor to sort out all the legal/financial bits - I've no idea if you've got the cash to do that, but it did seem to smooth things out.
The estate is so small that paying a solicitor would be silly. However, the bank is insisting that we get letters of administration (Damm HSBC, other banks are far more flexible about this issue). This is going to involved lots of form-filling and an extra trip down to England during the next month to have an interview with the probate office. It's manageable, but a pain in the backside...
Hi, I don't know you...but I hit the "random journal" button I never knew livejournal had...and your journal entry came up. I feel compelled to comment. I wanted to say that I'm sorry about your mom. I lost a close friend of mine, and that was hard, but it wasn't my mom. I hope you are able to mourn in ways that the world will allow for you to ease your stress and worries...talk about it as much as you want - I always felt like it was something no one wanted to hear and I became really depressed. Take care, good luck with everything...

I remember that the legal stuff to sort out is enormous from when my father and my grandmother died.
Hope you're coping.
