I'm up to 40 birds since I last wrote. I've identified 40 birds since the pandemic started and I first bought this bird book. Who knew there were so many different ducks? The American Wigeon, the Northern Pintail, the Common Merganser and Green-winged Teal. Then the wrens--the Pacific Wren, the Marsh Wren, the Bewick's Wren. And the confusing ( Read more... )

I love how your journal's name/photo have always been bird themed & just now you've started writing about birds.

I didn’t even notice that!!! Full circle. Man, we’ve been doing this for so long! (The origin of the mustache on the eagle had something to do with the first season of Project Runway.)

Livejournal will *always* be my favorite.

I think it was a Wendy Pepper thing. RIP Wendy Pepper.

YES! I was trying to remember why this was even funny. Didn't we hate Wendy or something? And someone drew a mustache on her photo? The first season of Project Runway feels like a lifetime ago.

Welcome to the world of birding. It can become an obsession, but it's a far more peaceful obsession than most. (I'm seeing Broadtail Hummingbirds and know that the Rufous will show up soon; waiting also for the beautiful Western Tanagers.) You might want to get a great app for your phone called Sibley Birds. It costs but it's worth it.
The clapping and cheering in Seattle have real meaning. In my small spread out town you can't hear it. And now we're having a small town battle over howling versus clapping. So silly. Strange time breeds ridiculous controversies.
As my friends Mya and Marji say, "Onward through the fog!"

I love it! Leave it to Taos to debate howling vs clapping! That cracks me up.

Lots of Anna’s Hummingbirds here. I got Sibley’s-you told me about it when I visited a few years ago ;) It’s the best! (Question for you: Best tree books? I got Sibley Trees and it’s not as good as Birds.)

Stay safe. We live in interesting times.

Red wing blackbirds are a favorite.
I have a family of downy woodpeckers living in the back yard. I listen to them laughing and find comfort there.

I looove Red-winged Blackbirds! So dramatic. A bunch down at the UW Botanic Garden marshes right now! (Enjoy your downy woodpecker friends!)
