Beautiful. Find any woodpeckers yet? Or owls? I saw my first Pileated woodpecker just recently (after 25 years of birdwatching!) and have a Barred owl outside my house. We also have Flickers that love to bang on our roof early in the morning. I used to love how pretty they are, but now I throw rocks at them, ha. Oh another really special WA sighting is the cedar waxwings. I'm always looking closely at bushes for those guys.

Just Northern Flickers as far as woodpeckers go! Lots of sparrows and shore birds (an eared grebe AND a western grebe!), but I’m a mere beginner, nothing like you!! ;) I am building up! It’s a whole new world!

Thanks for your beautiful description of life in the city. I can almost see the old familiar sights around Capitol Hill as you walk around your neighborhood. It is very strange outside, so quiet and empty. Remember talk of a "neutron bomb" that would kill people but not destroy property? It's like that with a few of us spared.
Glad to hear you've taken up birdwatching. I'm especially enjoying my regular avian visitors. Oddly, at the same time I started physically distancing three weeks ago, lots of the birds coming to my feeders quit coming, especially Juncos. They probably headed north or up to higher elevations but it felt eerie. I did see a Downy Woodpecker at my feeder this other day.
Stay safe and well,
T

Weird times indeed. Every Twilight episode and Netflix dystopia we’ve ever see (oh the memory of a neutron bomb!).

Oddly, now that you mention it, I’ve seen fewer birds since the official lockdown too! I used to get all these black-capped chickadees by my window, but they’re nowhere to be found recently. Just crows. It’s like they know.

You stay safe out there!
