Hello Livejournal. I miss you. This is still the place where the old memory of "The Promise of the Internets" still feels most authentic. Everything else has gone to shit. My eyes hurt from all the constant squinting at my mobile device

THANK YOU for confirming this is NOT NORMAL! To add insult to injury, AFTER I pulled this rabbit out of a hat on MY FIRST WEEK, I was given “feedback” that I shouldn’t be so “frenetic” and stressed out since my team needed “a leader.” Literally, my jaw dropped. This is what professionals might call “being set up for failure.” (It’s okay, I’ve had TONS of experience making cake out of shit, so I rocked the first stakeholder meeting anyway, but still... this is not a way to live or, frankly, the right way to develop a product. If this is what all tech companies are like, no wonder we’re all fucked.)

You're probably also experiencing some culture clash between PacNW and NYC, which might be the cause of you being branded as "frenetic".
West Coast tech culture is a bubble world, so give yourself some time to figure it out. Next time someone calls you frenetic, punch them in the throat and say "You want frenetic? How's THAT for frenetic, fuckface?" as they're gasping on the floor.

Punching someone is definitely how I feel most days. I’m trying to get (ridiculous) shit done here, not trying to win a Miss Congenialty contest. Like anyone would ever tell a DUDE that they were “too frenetic.” You know what a real “leader” does?? Makes sure shit is thought-through and strategic and has a vision... and that shit gets done, dammit! If they want less frenetic, they can start with slightly less impossible/ridiculous projects. (I would like to reiterate that Slack can go fuck itself too.)

I’m too shy to post much on FB (strange, considering how much I spill here!). I don’t even think FB counts as Cliff Notes bc it’s so inauthentic. I don’t know what it was about LJ, but hey, I guess I’m still here anyway and a couple of people still read, which I am thankful for. The worst is Twitter. There was never a time I even mildly liked that platform.

Twitter is fantastic for my work stuff, I’ve met a ton of other teachers and done a lot of work with my practice there...but only for work.
