LOL "Frisco." We recently bought a dresser at an antique place and found a postcard in one of the drawers from 1910 or something where the city line just says "City." What is California English, btw?

I'm sure one of my two roommates who are linguistics majors could explain to you much better than I the phonology, morphology, and syntax that differentiates California English from general American English or other regional dialects of the US. All I know is we say some of the vowels different, that people from NorCal like to use "hella" and people from SoCal say "the" in front of the freeways - "the 5," "the 101," "the 405" - it drives me nuts!

Arg, Merlin. That's a work in progress. It kind of started out as something that I was bothering me, then I had to go research it, then I started taking notes, then I just kind of started writing it out. It needs more research and a lot more editing before I'm willing to let anyone see it.

I never knew that about San Fransisco. Not that I've ever referred to it was "Frisco" or "San Fran" to be honest, heh. I've only ever been there for a layover at the airport anyway.

LOL, I don't think those are really international terms, more of local nicknames. I'm from Sacramento for example, and people from here refer to it as Sac. Or I had a friend at school from a town called Bakersfield and he always called it "Bako." I'm sure places everywhere have names like that.
