Fusion power may soon become a viable energy source. As long it doesn't end up like the one in Spiderman 2.
The actual output is still relatively small, but, as the old adage goes, Rome wasn't built in a day.
(And why is it that I read the headline of that article and instantly thought: "Star serious laser..."?) :D

I still remember being a little kid and reading about nuclear fusion. The book talked about how if it was viable, the world would never run out of energy again, and outlined possible ways of doing it. They thought it would be widespread by 2000 (the book was written in the 1970s), but I was really worried and didn't want it to be real. I thought we'd all have to do that fusion stuff in our own houses. :D
(Ah, the wonderful world of "children's science"!)
