are you reading http://www.onemanga.com/Vinland_Saga/? The mangaka uses actual events and characters, probably fun to read if you got a lot of knowledge on the area!

I am crap at actually reading stuff these days, but I've had it rec'd to me! and the art looks awesome! and normally historical anachronism makes my head hurt, but hell, I love the Shadow hearts games, so who knows. ^^ It is on my list of things to try, at least!

which part of viking history are you studying? I.e. are you/were you actually studying the viking part, or more domestic affairs in early medieval scandinavian kingdoms?

That was one of the biggest surprises to me that i learned in my medieval borderlands class - that viking referred to an activity you could only do outside scandinavia. I had always assumed that the vikings were called vikings because other people thought they came from vikland or something.
