Have been comfort-rereading Diana Wynne Jones and on checking to see whether any new books are in the offing (after the, I thought rather slight, House of Many Ways) - lo and behold, Enchanted Glass - which sounds like an idea spinning wildly off from Ted Mallory's glass windows in Deep Secret (and curiously, I read this for the however-manyth time ( Read more... )

Well, just the day rate is something like £150 for all three days (or £70 for the Saturday alone), but that's without accommodation! and it's £200 with, yikes. There is a FT student rate and it says applications for discount on other grounds will be considered. You know, it's no different to other academic conferences of this size and scope, but it definitely marks it out as an academic conference, not a fan binge! (though I imagine all the speakers and attendees will also be fans, of course.)

Maybe they'll bring out conference proceedings...

Steep. Sigh. I'd seriously consider it if my due date wasn't the Thursday. God alone knows what will be going on that weekend though.

The day rate includes food (breakfasts, lunches, dinners) - I know the organizers will negotiate a discount on the basis of no-food, because I asked them. If you email them and let them know your circumstances, I bet they'll sort you out a lower rate - I mean, it's better for them to have an extra body and a little bit of extra cash than no-one and no money.
