I winced at your engagement party when I heard comments about your ring and 'diamonds' in the same sentence.

I think... it is amusing. That they somehow feel sorry for me because I don't have diamonds. As if I'm so hard done by to have someone who, though they'll go having fairy tale rings made for me, somehow can't manage to buy me diamonds. If I wanted them, I'd have them. That I don't have them means he knows me well enough to know I didn't want them, and cares enough to get something I'll like, rather than what the world tells him I should want.

Congratulations! That sounds absolutely wonderful. Honestly, way more meaningful than diamonds (which have their own issues to contend with).
