The end... Part two

Aug 18, 2008 21:02

This is part two of my new series, I hope you are all enjoying it. I need lots and lots of comments, please...

Part one was here http://miss-shine.livejournal.com/9967.html

Toshiko turned the corner into yet another road that she didn’t recognize. She stumbled down the road, while holding on to some metal railings to stop herself falling on the floor. Her head hurt so badly that she thought she was going to pass out, she could hear a noise in her head. A weird beeping noise; beep beep beeeep beep, what the hell was that? Beep beep beeeep beep, wait it wasn’t in her head in was in her bag. Her phone was making the noise, it was ringing.

The effort involved in keeping herself up right and walking down the road was enough to keep her busy. So she ignored it and instead concentrated on moving forewords, after all it did seem like the best plan she had. As long as she kept moving she’d be ok, she was sure of it. She just wasn’t sure of were she was going or why. Her phone stopped ringing and she allows herself to slide down the railings and onto the ground, she developed a better plan. She curled up in a ball on the ground and went to sleep. After all that seemed like a much better idea, if she stayed still some one would come and get her.

“Are you ready for this?” the morgue’s doctor asked with a look of concern on his face.

“Just open the bloody draw” Owen told him.

Owen was annoyed because he hated it when the police knew something Torchwood didn’t. The police loved to climb on their high horse and really draw the whole thing out; so that it was as slow and painful as possible.

The morgue’s doctor opened the cold draw, Owen and Gwen looked down to see… nothing. The cold draw was completely empty. Owen smiled to himself, he was going to enjoy this. He looked up at the morgue’s doctor and the police officers who populated the room.

“It’s a very nice cold draw” said Owen with an evil smile on his face. “Really it is one of the finest I’ve seen, but maybe we could get back to why we’re here. Where’s the Captain?”

The morgue’s doctor looked confused, “I’m sure I left him in here” he said looking right into the back of the draw, as if to make sure that Jack hadn’t gotten stuck.

The stuck up detective inspector turned to the doctor, “well which bloody draw did you put him in then?” she demanded.

The morgue’s doctor was an old man, close to retirement age; he took off his glasses and wiped them on his white coat. “Well let me see” he said slowly.

He put his glasses back on and slid the draw back in, he closed the door behind it and checked his chart. He looked up from his chart and then at the labels on the draws. Then he put the chart under his arm and opened another draw. On this there was a body in a bag, Gwen took hold of Owens hand. The doctor unzipped the bag to revel a middle aged blonde woman. Owen looked at the D.I and said calmly and with no hint of a smile; “that’s not him.” The doctor shook his head and the D.I went red in the face.

“Where is he?” she shouted at the doctor.

“Well, err… he’s not actually here” the doctor told her.

“What do you mean he’s not here, where the hell is he?”

“Um well let me think” said the morgue doctor wiping his brow with the sleeve of his white coat. “He must have moved” the doctor concludes rather unhelpfully.

“Has He been moved?” asked the D.I her face had gone bright red. Owen couldn’t help giggling to himself, just a little bit. He leaned towards Gwen.

“Look out” he muttered quietly “she’s goanna blow” Gwen quickly moved her hand to her face to hide the fact she was laughing.

“He’s a bloody dead body! Now where the hell is it?” at this point the D.I was practically screaming at the terrified morgue doctor.

“Maybe he’s in one of the other draws” Gwen interjected. The D.I gave Gwen a look that could have killed.

“Right then open them all up” she ordered stepping back out of the way.

The other officers jumped to it and started helping the morgue doctor open all the draws and unzip all the body bags. Soon all ten draws were open and all nine body bags unzipped, Owen sat on the tray of the empty draw.

“Well he’s not here” he said giving the D.I a smug look. “Tell me have you been doing a lot of over time lately?”

The D.I look at him “yes but I don’t see what that has to do with any thing”

“I see” said Owen sharing a knowing glance with Gwen. “And have you been sleeping? Or suffering from any panic attacks or I don’t know… hallucinations?”

“Are you implying that I made this up” the D. I questioned angrily.

“No, no I’m not implying that you’re a liar, I’m simply suggesting that you’re over worked, stressed perhaps and well maybe a little bit…”

“A little bit what Doctor Harper?”

“Mad” said Owen bluntly

“Mad?” spat the D.I now so infuriated that she had gone a rather fetching shade of purple.

“Insane, barmy, crazy… um nuts… err Gwen help me out here”

“Lost it” she offered.

“I KNOW WHAT IT MEANS” boomed the D.I.

“No need to shout I was just giving my professional opinion. Now do you have any evidence that Jack was pulled out of the bay this morning?”

“Err…no, yes of course we do”

“Are you sure? It’s just you seem a little confused.” Owen resting his chin on his hand, rubbing his chin he asked “do you often find yourself feeling confused?”

“I am not confused Doctor” snapped the D.I “we have photographs and the clothes he was wearing”
“Oh the clothes, where are they?” asked Gwen.

“Jones go get the clothes” the D.I told one of the P.C’s. silently the left the room.

“Was Jack the only ‘body’ you found lately” asked Owen using the bunny ears as he said it. He was really starting to enjoy himself.

“No actually he was one of two that we pulled out of the bay this morning.”

“What?” the grin dropped from Owens face. The D.I liked that, now she was going to enjoy herself. Owen could see it in her eyes.

“This is the other victim” she said pointing to a young black man.

Owen walked over to him, closely followed by Gwen. He looked at the black man’s face, “gloves” he asked holding out his hand. The morgue doctor handed him a pair of white rubber gloves, which Owen snapped on. “Cause of death?” Owen asked while inspecting the body.

“Unknown” the D.I answered as the P.C re entered the room; he had come in empty handed. “Where are the clothes?” she asked him.

“They weren’t there” answered P.C Jones.

“What?”
“They’re missing” confirmed the P.C.

Owen quietly pulled out his phone and photographed some on the body, then slid it back into his pocket. He straighten himself up and while snapping of his gloves he said “maybe you should think about taking a holiday” he dropped his gloves into the D.I’s hand as he and Gwen left.

“Wait a second, where do you think your going?”

“Back to work” Gwen answered her “I think you’re wasted enough of our time, don’t you?” then she turned and followed Owen out of the morgue.

“Where do you think Jack went?” Gwen asked Owen.

“he’ll be on his way back to the hub, un less he’s already there with his feet up enjoying a cup of Ianto’s coffee” Owen unlocked the SUV “we’ll drive slowly just incase we see him on the way back.”

Toshiko woke up for the second time that day in a strange bed. This bed was a hospital bed and she was plugged into a lot of machines. Her head hurt and she was feeling dazed and confused.

“Where am I?” she asked the thin air, and was shocked to get a response.

“Gwent royal hospital” the voice told her.

She looked around to see a nurse standing in the door way to her room. “Some one found you lying on the pavement half naked, ambulance brought you in. Can you remember what happened?”

“What… no I… I don’t remember… the last thing I can remember is Jack”

“Jack” repeated the nurse.

“Captain Jack Harkness” Toshiko told her.

“Would you like us to call him?”

“No… wait… Gwent Royal Hospital isn’t that in Newport”

“That’s right… are you sure you don’t want us to call any one”

“I live in Cardiff” muttered Toshiko.

“What’s that sweetheart?”
“Can you call one of my friends?” asked Toshiko. “An Ianto Jones?”

“If you give me the number, I’ll call any one you want” the nurse told her with a reassuring smile.
