Soon, Gone Is The Day
“Bones please!” Jim’s voice was desperate, even as he trailed his lover around their rooms, “Bones, he’s out of control! He’s sending us towards the barrier at the edge of the galaxy.”
Leonard tried to shut Jim’s voice out of his head, tried not to hear the desperation in his voice, the anxiety, the bone deep weariness. He wanted to block it all out, to return to the morning before all this had happened. Before Spock had become infected with some spore that made him go crazy and paranoid.
If he did this then his secret would be revealed to everyone, there would be no hiding it. Starfleet would be advised, the Federation...research into C-24 would begin, monsters would spread...
Surely Jim knew what this would do, how could he ask this of him? Leonard’s thoughts swirled and burned and he dug his nails into his palms.
“Jim...” He twisted to look at his lover, and his eyes met the Captain’s clear blue ones. He almost asked the question but the words stuck in his throat. It was there in Jim’s eyes, the knowledge of what it would cost, what they could lose. And yet he still asked, because it was Spock, their friend.
Leonard closed his eyes, and shivered.
“Alright Jim.” He felt Jim’s hand curl around his elbow and soft lips brushed against his cheek, “Where is he?”

The Brig was quiet, the lights dim.
Leonard was curled up on the narrow bed set against the wall, and although he was locked up in the holding cells of the ship he called home he was content.
Because even though he was curled up on an uncomfortable narrow bed in a cell on the ship he called home, Jim was with him.
Jim was sprawled across him, face tucked into his neck, and fingers curled around the immortal mans arm and waist. Leonard’s fingers were gentle as they caressed the silky golden strands of Jim’s hair and he smiled as he felt Jim’s breath huff against his neck.
“I love you.” He murmured, and Jim nodded sleepily.
“You too Bones. Even if you’re a freak who can kick a Vulcan’s ass.”
“Fuck off.”
Jim just chuckled against his skin and slowly they drifted off to sleep.

It was the equivalent of dawn, and Spock was watching the two men sleeping in the Brig cell.
He remembered McCoy restraining him, using strength beyond normal strength, he remembered Jim’s desperate eyes, he remembered Uhura’s hands over her mouth, Chekov’s anxious babbling. He remembered the fog in his brain, the brain he prized so highly. He remembered the sting of the hypo and then he remembered waking up in the medbay and reading the file that was provided on the Doctor and his abilities.
He knew that Kirk had placed McCoy in the Brig, but he had not known that Kirk had stayed to keep him company.
Spock was a scientist, he found the C-24 fascinating. But he also had spent long enough with McCoy to know that the man wouldn’t over exaggerate the dangers of the chromosome, or the benefits. Could he betray his friend and put him up for scientific investigation?
Or...
“When they wake, tell the Doctor that he is not rostered on for the day, but that I expect both he and the Captain on duty again tomorrow.”
“Yes sir.” The security officer said, smiling slightly.
Spock nodded, looked at the two men wrapped up together once more, before disappearing back to his own rooms.
