Not Alone
Long before James T Kirk was born, and long before even John Grimm came to be Alistair was the King of Ferelden.
Along with a fellow Grey Warden he defeated the Blight that threatened his Kingdom, unknowing of the truth about Darkspawn. Monstrous creatures, difficult to kill, speedier than most men, these facts he knew. The Chantry taught him that the Darkspawn came from Human Mages, wrapped up in their own greed that they lost all humanity.
He believed that Grey Warden’s would only live for thirty years because of the taint from the Darkspawn blood they drank at their Joining.
He stopped believing that after a century or so.
The problem with living so long however was the fact that he was forced to watch the destruction of his world, seeing the sun dwindle, the world grow colder, the growing dominance of the Darkspawn.
So in a last ditch attempt the Mages sacrificed themselves to create a portal, a portal which took the Survivors away from their dying world, to the fresh new world of Earth, away from the Darkspawn.
Years passed, fact became tale, tale became legend, and legend turned to myth until all memory became forgotten.
Except for Alistair.
He lived and for 2000 years he was quite content, believing that the Darkspawn had finally been destroyed.

Until Olduvai.
Alistair heard the news story over breakfast, smashing his coffee cup as he watched a handsome man with haunted dark eyes carry a fair haired woman to a waiting medical team, listened to John Grimm speak.
”...a science experiment gone wrong, trying to replicate a chromosome mutation in humans from the remains of Mars’s past. Monsters....everyone dead.”
He was out the door in seconds, heading for the RRTS base in Nevada at top speed.
~*~
The instant he stepped within the base he knew.
He could smell him.
In a few seconds John Grimm was there standing on the gantryway above him, looking down at him, those dark eyes focused on Alistair’s face.
Grimm could smell him too.
“You fought the Darkspawn.” Alistair said, face tilted up, gazing up at this man who despite all the odds was just like him.
“You’d better come upstairs.” Was the response.

The first time Alistair saw Jim Kirk, two hundred years after meeting John Grimm, the boy was getting his face bashed in by Starfleet cadet goons.
“He’s good.”
Beside him the former John Grimm, now Leonard McCoy, snorted into his bourbon. After Olduvai the name Grimm had become instantly famous, forcing John to assume a new identity and name, as McCoy, as a Doctor.
“I’m not looking.”
“I meant he smells good.”
“Doesn’t mean anything, he’s not like us.”
“C’mon Leo, I know you like them blond.”
McCoy gave him a look over his drink and Alistair waggled his eyebrow, mouth curling into a cheeky grin.
“You know I love you, but I’m not going to be your mate for Eternity.”
Alistair’s eyes darkened slightly and Leo sighed, reaching out to pat the older man’s shoulder. The former marine knew that his friend still mourned for his love, dead now over 2500 years. To love someone that much...
Would he ever have that?
“Some kid in a bar fight is not going to be my mate.”
Famous last words.
~*~
The first time Jim came into a lecture smelling of sex it was Alistair who had to restrain Leo and haul him out of the theatre before he went on a killing rampage.
What was it about Leo that made the Taint so...animalistic? Alistair couldn’t tell you. But he did know that Leo, at first, had reacted so strongly to Jim on a purely instinctual level, but now with time going by and a friendship growing, he was feeling more and more territorial of the young man.
Alistair had smelt the sex too. Of course it hadn’t set him off like it had Leo, but he had still tensed.
Whoever Jim had slept with, the person wasn’t a good one.
And Alistair didn’t like that.
~*~
Alistair lost count of the times Jim entered lectures smelling of sex. But he definitely remembered the day that Jim entered smelling of Leo.
Ducking his head, the sandy haired immortal grinned at his PADD.
He was pleased, thrilled for his friend, and thrilled for Jim whom he had genuinely come to like.
So why did he suddenly feel so sad?
~*~
Someone was kissing down his chest.
Instantly Alistair’s eyes shot open, light brown gaze falling on the golden head pressing kisses to his skin, and the wicked bright blue eyes looking up at him.
“Jim...” he breathed, feeling his heart clench with fear, “What...”
“It’s okay Ali.” A large hand stroked over Alistair’s reddish blond hair, “We got ya.”
“Leo? What the hell is going...?”
“See?” said Leo, turning to Jim with a familiar scowl, “I told you we should have talked to him beforehand instead of just molesting him in his sleep.”
Jim just grinned back at his lover and nipped at Alistair’s abdomen.
“You talk Bones. I’ll get to work.”
Leo turned to Alistair with an eye roll and leaned in to kiss the other immortal deeply.
“How to begin...” he said when they parted, “Well I guess it started when you hugged Jim after that Xeno-botany class a few weeks back. You know how usually I go a bit...”
“Possessive?” Jim supplied with a dreamy grin, before nibbling over Alistair’s hip.
“Shut up Jim. Anyway, I could smell you on him afterwards, and for once I wasn’t angry or...violently inclined.”
“He was so fucking turned on though.” Jim interrupted again, resting his chin on Alistair’s belly. “Best sex I’ve ever had.”
“Afterwards,” Leo growled, glaring at Jim, “Jim and I talked about it and Jim admitted that he thought you were kinda hot.”
“I think my words were, ‘I’d tap that so hard he wouldn’t know which way was up’.” Jim supplied.
“And I wasn’t jealous, in fact...I agreed.”
“Shocked the life out of me.” Jim nodded, “Thought he was going to tear you apart and instead he just agrees.”
Leo had clearly given up trying to quell Jim’s interruptions.
“So we planned this...having you. Together.”
“You wan’t...me and both of you?” Alistair asked, cheeks blushing despite himself, “This is the part where I wake up right?”
“Nope.” Jim said, bending his head and taking Alistair’s cock into his mouth.
“He tends to leap without looking.” Leo murmured into Alistair’s ear as older man’s head fell back with a moan. A hum of agreement came from Jim as Leo captured Alistair’s lips in a searing kiss.
“You sure Jim? Leo?” Ali asked a few moments later when his and Leo’s lips had parted and they saw Jim watching them hungrily.
“We’re sure.”
~*~
Later Alistair stood at his window, letting the cool night air caress his bare skin.
He had forgotten how brilliant sex was, although he had never really slept with guys before. But Jim and Leo...they had been brilliant.
But he had still felt like a third wheel, the accessory to their love.
Looking back at the bed he saw Leo wrapped protectively around his younger lover and smiled softly. They were happy. They were in love.
Maybe it was time for him to find someone to love too.
That was when he saw blue and hazel green eyes open and watching him.
“Coming back to bed?” Jim asked softly, patting the covers beside him softly.
Clambering back into bed and caressing Jim’s skin while Leo slipped into the blond man’s body, Alistair was content.
Maybe he wouldn’t find love, but until he did, he wouldn’t be alone.
