Dear "Auntie", I'm happy to pay the license fee right now.

Last week's Dr Who was awesome on any number of levels. Bill Nighy was amazing in his cameo and his speech at the end was moving in any number of ways. First the whole wish-fulfillment thing for Vincent and yes we were pretty much all leaky around the edges here (and damn that's twice in one season. Good heavens!) Second, his comments about how Van ( Read more... )

I had the same reaction to depression - the house hardly got cleaned, didn't write, couldn't care less at work - but there could be other factors involved. I don't think Van Gogh's artistic ability was just a product of his depression (and I do think he was a great artist, because even a simple flower picture is somehow full of twisted emotion) but I do think his mental condition (which was more complicated than that) shows through in his work. (Not that I'd want a Van Gogh in the house, because they are so disturbing - rather like being glad that El Greco's Laocoön is not actually in this country, stunning though it is.)

Much as I'd like to claim the Babelfish comment, it was actually shewhomust.

I stand corrected.
Disturbing art has that effect. You're glad that you *can't* see it.

Lovely hostas (and what a very tidy garden - much better than ours!)

I'm with you on the licence fee - can I also add 'History of the World in 100 objects and last Wednesday's afternoon play on Eric Gill and the Broadcasting House sculptures? Great fun.

Of course you can. I should have added R$ to the list anyway!

I think 'Auntie' has done herself proud with some recent series (Ashes to Ashes, Being Human, Life on Mars would be added to my list).

And of course there's always drama radio too...

I love that Blue Mood rose :)

*nods* I should have added Radio 4 to my list, of course. The News Quiz and the Now show are endlessly entertaining. LoM was fascinating too...

Thank you. The Hostas are bent on world domination and are even bigger!
Blue Moon is a gorgeous rose with a delicate citrus/honey fragrance, although I have 'fessed up to tweaking the colour slightly in P'Shop.
