Orihime raced toward the cafeteria, her still-damp hair bouncing against the back of her neck as she ran. She'd forgotten about a swim class, and she hoped Aang hadn't been waiting for her too long. He was really nice, and she was glad to be making a new friend, since she'd been feeling lonely lately. Waving enthusiastically, the girl simply assumed the boy outside the cafeteria was the person she'd been coming to meet. Not particularly sound logic, but those who knew her knew that her common sense didn't necessarily extend past schoolwork ( ... )

Aang liked to think of himself as a gentleman. He was always polite to women, always treated with them respect, always made sure to look them in the eye.

'Those aren't her eyes,' he tried to remind himself, but he still couldn't tear his eyes away.

Those things were HUGE.

Fortunately, her next comment was weird enough to draw his attention up.

"Uhhh...I don't really think so," he said, baffled more by the worry on her face than the actual suggestion. Is she serious?'

"But maybe they'd believe Bigfoot is here on vacation!" he suggested, perking up.

Orihime didn't notice in the slightest where his eyes were drawn. She smiled and gave a small nervous laugh in response to that confused expression people tended to wear around her, though she was never quite sure why...

"Bigfoot?" Shrugging, she said, "Well, we can try!" Turning and heading into the cafeteria, Orihime broke into a slow run again.

Approaching the cafeteria ladies, she exclaimed, arms gesturing wildly, "There's a boy over by the football field who's overheated! He's going to get heat stroke and have to go to the hospital if he doesn't get something cold, REALLY SOON! You need to give us the snow cone machine! We'll bring it back later today, I promise, but he could DIE if we don't get the snow cone machine, just for a little while!"

Of course, her story might have been more compelling if she had kept her hand and arm movements small, rather than caricature-like and of the type that instantly call into question a person's sanity, but... at least it was somewhat more realistic than the Frosty scenario?

Aang followed Orihime, but as they drew closer to the cafeteria ladies, he did his best to hide behind her. After all, it wouldn't do for his presence to prejudice them to the young woman's case.

Mrs. Pierce -- known as the Cabbage Queen to the cafeteria students for self-evident reasons -- gasped.

"Well why would you want the ice shaver?" she asked. "Goodness, child, let me get you a glass of water and a bucket of ice!" She hurried back to the kitchen to rustle something up.

Aang facepalmed. That had not quite gone as planned.
