The last time Temari remembered walking down this particular side of the street was on a colder day with ulterior purposes. Maybe there was a bit of alcohol floating around her head that night, but she had a clear head tonight and was wearing much less. Not that she was anywhere near skimpy, but shorts and tanks was all that she could bear for this temperature.

A couple of minutes later she found herself moving through a crowd in the dorm hallway, ignoring several glances her way before knocking on an unfamiliar door.

"Open up!" she called out, trying to make herself heard over the noise.

Leaning out the window, Shikamaru flicked the cigarette butt fanning out the fumes before heading towards the door. The last time he set off the fire alarm he'd gotten a fare warning from the RA, and he didn't feel like dealing with that dolt at this time of night.

The door opened and he stood with that ridiculously bored expression letting her in. Some of the other boys whistled down the hall, making some off-handed remarks as Shikamaru slammed the door in response.

The cloud of smoke still overhung the room. He cleared his throat feeling terribly awkward again as he stuck his hands into his pockets.

The whistles made Temari turn back but before she could say anything sharp towards those responsible she found herself enclosed in a smoke-filled room with the one guy she tried to avoid the last few days. Through the smoke, Temari could make out the familiar tall, lanky form and the look of indifference on Shikamaru's face.

Without being invited to, Temari walked in further into the room and perched by the windowsill, trying to stay close to a source of clean air, as much as she liked the nostalgic smell of nicotine.

"Are you going to make me do all the talking, too?" she sarcastically asked, casually leaning a little out of the window to look at the view below.

His lip twitched slightly finding himself over by the nightstand again, picking up that crumbled pack of cigarettes. Another white stick found it's way between his lips, just lightly dangling on his bottom lip. He flicked the lighter a few times as he walked over to the open window taking a seat opposite to her.

"It would be a start," he said, voice muffled by the nicotine stick. His eyes racked over her, her face looking as mysterious as it did the first time he'd seen her. He turned them back to the outdoor scene as he leaned his hand out the window, turning the lighter around in his hand, listening to the liquid swish around it's green casing.

That glimmer of carefulness hit her face and his fingers twined with hers at her softer gesture. It was a lot for him to take that male chauvinism down a notch and just be with her. He would not declare himself whipped however, even if he could hear his old man laughing in his head. Maybe she wasn't so used to his slowness, and he to that abrasive behavior---but somewhere in between it worked. And for once instead of planning out everything step by step, it had became painfully obvious that there was no planning around this girl. He was dealing with that, and since first meeting her realized that his usual downplay of emotions was slowly starting to slip up from time to time.

Closing his eyes momentarily, Shikamaru let that drum of his heart beat tone down before replying. "Stay the night," his reply less of a question and more of a request. At least there wouldn't be worry of interference. Lord knows his roommate had his girlfriend over every night, so this was a welcome change.

There could've been a smart response to his words, but Temari did nothing but give Shikamaru a look instead, kissing his hand as a quiet "yes" to his request. At the moment, she didn't want to remember that she still had work tomorrow morning, but if worse came to worse, she would slip out the next morning. That action, in itself, might bring questions again between them, but she wasn't going anywhere this time. So there would be a lot more time for "explanations" like tonight.

Although, at the moment, Temari was lost for words, which was weird to a social girl like herself. But it was a moment that was best lost in silence and just quiet thoughts, with the both of them holding onto each other like this. A little bit of herself from a couple of months ago laughed at how silly and soft she had became, but Temari knew she would suffer the embarrassment more than once if it kept bringing her these peaceful moments.
