When Izuru had expected Kankuro over, he hadn't expected him at... ten o'clock at night. Didn't the man have to work the next day? Sighing, he slammed the thick textbook he had been studying for the last four hours closed and pushed it off to the side. If he didn't know what he needed for the exam the next day, then he probably was never going to know it. Izuru believed in studying a great deal, and studying hard, but there were limits even to that.

Crossing from the kitchen, where he had been studying, toward the entrance hall, Izuru checked the clock one more time before opening the door. "I didn't expect you this late," he began, but stepped away to give Kankuro the room he needed to enter the house. Once he was inside, Izuru closed the door. Though they had intended to go out for this, before Kankuro's sudden trip out of the country, it seemed that simply being tired and the inconvenience of Izuru's youth had brought them here ( ... )

Laughing as the door was open, Kankuro looked at his watch. "Is it that late?" he asked in a feigned voice, obvious that he knew it was clearly too late to be going to see anyone. He was used to late nights now at this point, after having Momo keep him up and vice versa. Not to mention he had the day off tomorrow, so there was no reason he couldn't sit back with a good beer and have some company for once. Kankuro was very obviously used to having attention, and if he didn't---he made it. It went along with the territory of his very upfront and blunt personality ( ... )

Izuru rolled his eyes and shifted the beer from the uncomfortable position against his chest. He hadn't intended to ask Kankuro to take off his shoes, had long since gotten out of the habit, but followed him further into the house. If Kankuro's rudeness indicated that he had warmed up to Izuru, then the simple fact that Izuru hadn't retreated into shooting cold, dirty looks at him indicated that they had at least formed some sort of truce, if not the odd sort of friendship they had developed both independently and because of Momo.

"Not the kitchen, because I've spent the better part of the last twelve hours studying in there." Izuru gestured toward the den, which was quiet, relaxing, and devoid entirely of anything that might have resembled a textbook. "So, unless you want to look at my chemistry notes, you'd be better off in here."

Kankuro's upper lip twitched as he peeked over into the kitchen, seeing that Izuru wasn't exaggerating and there were far too many books, papers and pencils laying out on the counter like an operation table. He stuck out his tongue in a disgusted face. It wouldn't have mattered if Kankuro had actually even opened some of the books he was required to read in school, plain and simple his ADD personality made it difficult to pay attention for long amounts of time, not to mention they used too many big words he had a hard time understanding. Stood to reason why when Momo visited him at the station once she could understand his stack of paperwork more than he could, and could quickly get through it. He wasn't always smart, and he was okay with that ( ... )

Izuru exhaled sharply as Kankuro smacked him on the shoulder, rubbing the part he had smacked and setting the remaining beers on the table. Once he was seated on the couch--with more dignity than Kankuro had dropped onto the couch--he took the can from him. It wasn't the best he'd ever had... but hardly the worst. He'd been a freshman before, and his roommate the year previous had dragged him to his fair share of fraternity parties where far cheaper and... frankly more disgusting beer had been served.

"I appreciate the thought," he told him after lowering the can again. His eyes wouldn't focus properly, and Izuru rubbed his face in exhaustion. So, so close to being finished with his finals, and then... then he would be free of school for at least the next month or so, in the case he decided to sign up for summer classes. Which just reminded him that Momo was planning on hounding him about a girlfriend as soon as finals were over... "But I'm getting by just fine without... either," he coughed the last part and stared at the can again

In a way Kankuro had to envy Izuru. Much like he did Momo and his siblings. There was something within Kankuro's brain that just made school difficult for him to understand. He didn't get textbooks, tests, big words and long lectures. Art school was well enough for him to pay attention to because he could just go bat shit crazy on his projects and not worry about structure and staying in between the lines.

He wouldn't admit any of that though, and so was the twitching lip he gave before downing a good portion of that can. "Fine is just an easy way of you ignoring it." Kankuro snorted. "How long has it been again?" he asked the boy, not caring in the least that he was probably making the situation uncomfortable. In fact the more uncomfortable it was the better.

With a frown and a darkening of his expression, Izuru ignored the question for a moment by taking another drink of his beer. When he had finished, and had sufficiently pushed away his fluster, he looked up at Kankuro with a raised eyebrow. "Fine is good enough for me right now, even if I do have to ignore it." He sighed shortly and sat back on the couch and considered ignoring the second question. He had no doubt that Kankuro remembered exactly how long he had told him it had been, even if it had been a vague estimate ( ... )

Kankuro was used to people ignoring or backing out of his demands. It didn't mean he stopped asking or pressing. It's what made his personality what it was, and what lead him to where he was today. He had to have something going for him when for so long in his life there wasn't much else keeping him running. He would have given up a long time ago if that were the case ( ... )

"No, I don't. And Momo isn't a cock block," he countered and shot the hand he was using to pat his shoulder a withering look. "And I've made it this far being a good guy, haven't I?" A test raise of the can told him he was probably halfway through. Another drink, a long one to keep from focusing on the reddening in his face, drained the can further still. He wasn't a lightweight, but it had been quite a while since he'd had the time to drink. He would have to pace himself, or risk the possibility of being sick the next day during his final.

Resettling himself with a bit of a sullen look, Izuru turned the cool look on Kankuro himself. "Not every woman wants a bad boy, you know." He started to point out that he wasn't making it up--that Winry had recently suggested the same thing--but snapped his mouth closed before the words could even form. Winry was probably a subject to avoid while they were discussing... this. After the comments he'd already had with them about her, it was best to keep his mouth shut and leave anything Winry had ( ... )

The problem with Kankuro was that he wasn't such the badass he thought he was, he just liked to be able to have that big scare. It's the only front he had that worked for him, but Momo had very easily like a few others seen straight through it ( ... )
