Kenpachi hadn't been feeling well all day. He knew he was getting sick, but he really didn't feel like letting it get to him, so he'd started doing his usual workout - running around the block, pushups, situps, the works. After getting very winded only halfway through, though, he gave in and went to his room to do a bit of checking up on his contacts online. He was not going to lay down. That would be giving in. No matter how badly he was shivering ( ... )

Shizuru frowned. Well, at least he was talking. That ruled out some causes of him collapsing. Masking the depth of her concern with a dose of sarcasm, she told him, "What's wrong is that you've had an unplanned meeting with the floor and are lying there asking me what's wrong." Kenpachi wasn't supposed to collapse. The two men in her life were both unreasonably sturdy, especially Kenpachi, and seeing him lying there shook her more than she'd ever admit.

"Come on," she said, leaning in closer and sliding an arm under his shoulder. "Let's get you over to the bed, then we'll figure out what's wrong." Even through the black fabric of his t-shirt she could feel the heat radiating from Kenpachi's body. "You have a fever." Shizuru felt a slight shiver run through him as she helped him sit and slipped her arm around him to get him to his feet.

And now she was frowning at him. When had she started wearing green lipstick? No, it couldn't be lipstick, since it was all over. "An' ya got green," he said, gesturing vaguely. That seemed to be wrong too. Maybe something had exploded and gotten all over her. Maybe it was jello. Maybe the room was actually jello. "I like Jell-o." He wasn't sure why he was telling her this. "But only tha purple kind." That, of course, was a vital detail.

Go to the bed? Wasn't he-- Kenpachi looked around. Oh. No, he wasn't in bed. He was on the floor. How had that happened? He tried to help her get him there, pushing himself up and stumbling a little on the way. "Yer arm is nice," he assured Shizuru. The bed was in front of him now, and he stared at it for a moment. Stretching his arm forward, he poked it to make sure it wasn't jello like the room. It didn't wiggle. That was good. His finger also didn't go in, which meant it wasn't pudding, so he wasn't going to drown. "Solid." An important point indeed.

Green... apparently, she'd turned into the wicked witch of the west since the last time she checked the mirror. Just as long as she didn't start cackling and threatening little dogs. "I'll make you some purple jello later," Shizuru promised, "But for now, you need to lie down ( ... )
