I did the zoo/city museum combo when I was visiting my sister, and it was a blast. However, I found that one's age really creeps up on one when one suddenly finds oneself crawling through a metal mesh tube 200 feet above the ground and suddenly realizes the tube might be too small. Also, I was almost stuck in the ball crawl for life.
isn't the zoo freaking awesome? and it's FREE. that always blew me away. we had to do it super fast because it was closing, and i regret brian wasn't able to see all of it, but i like to think i was able to show him the highlights (he's very much into birds, and he enjoyed that).
the city museum - how awesome that you share my joy!!! i had bruises, BRUISES the next day from that place! brian has a SCAR!
and, btw, i was only able to do 1 of those damn "500 billion feet off the ground tubes" because, halfway up it, i remembered how unfond i was of heights. sigh.
I know! I remember finding out the zoo was free and being all "are you SURE?" and feeling like I was getting away with something when I went inside. Is it there that they have the nocturnal species exhibit, or am I thinking of another place? because that was a cool experience.
I didn't pause to consider the height thing until I was in the middle of said tube, but I've never had a height problem. My issue was with my claustrophobia and the realization that the tube I was in was actually narrowing as I got closer to the other end. I had a terrible moment, during which I pictured myself getting stuck like Winnie the Pooh and having to have the fire department come and dismantle City Museum to get my fat ass out of its exhibit.
But good times, and I'd definitely do it again. I think I had a few injuries myself when we left, and I was scolded by my mother for doing more damage than my two year old nephew in a place clearly meant for children. but she raised me, so it's her fault.
