Chag sameach (now someone find me a chair)

Apr 16, 2011 00:54

I work in a largely Jewish community (at a Shoppers as a cashier) so the upcoming holiday means that my hours have been upped to almost 40 a week instead of a pitiful 16-24! Which is great! Matzah and Kedem grape juice for everyone ( Read more... )

*gives you cookie, a glass of milk to wash it down, and my Snuggie and panda pillow*

I so know how you feel. I'm on my feet all day too. I move around a lot though, I work in the deli which means I'm never in the same place for very long, but I have been a cashier too, and yeah...it sucks. :( *hugs*

*receives cuddles and cookies with glee*

LOL Snuggies. I CAN USE MAH HANDS now I don't have to upset my blanket pile to change the channel. ^_^

omg deli. People that work in deli are fucking warriors. Dealing with shit that can slice your fingers off, running around back and forth like a meat bartender, and smiling in the face of cranky old ladies who need their ever lovin' brisket right the fuck now. *hugsback*

One time I had it in my head that I wanted to switch to the bakery, cuz I was like "Dude, I can just decorate pretty cakes all day!" Then I befriended someone in bakery and found out all you do is slave over a hot stove, a hot dishwasher, and maybe occasionally decorate a cake. If you're the person specially hired to do so, who only gets like 10 hours a week anyway. :\\\\

I need to get away from jobs that involve food anyway. Seems counter productive.

Obligatory because I'm Jewish: FUCK YEAH PESACH!!

And now, you get my Grandma's matzoh ball soup and my mom's desserts, because that shit is therapeutic. *snuggle*

WHOOO! I'm not Jewish myself, but working at this store is teaching me a lot. ^_^

Matzah ball soup! I have yet to try this, but I have heard it's like, serious comfort food. *snuggle*

I think I'm going to treat my Italian in-laws to some Matzoh ball soup this year. I miss it like crazy.

*whimper* Matzoh ball soup is probably THE worst thing about going gluten free. I haven't dared find a GF matzoh substitute because nothing, NOTHING compares to some really fluffy, delicious matzoh balls simmered just the right length of time with some carrots and onion. Ohhh, that stuff's the bomb.

***hugs and a foot rub*** Ohh, man, have I been there. Retail can be awesome, but it's murder on the feet. I wished I lived near you so I could bring some of my ultra-comfortable when-I-worked-retail shoes to see if they'd work for you.

Maybe once Pesach's over, get yourself a nice pedicure and foot massage? If there's a beauty school nearby, you can usually get them dirt cheap, and the students are hugely grateful for the experience. (They also tend to do good work.)

*snuggles* Thank you!

See my current shoes probably aren't helping anything. What brand of shoes were yours? Maybe they come in a 12WW! XD

And yes, once everything is said and done I just might have to splurg on a little pampering. ;) I know that the local community college has massage students doing work for about 15 dollars, which I found out is an unbelievable price.

If you can get them, nurse's shoes or mocassin-style shoes are great for standing. Failing that, thick sneakers/running shoes. Also, nurse's shoes tend to come in larger sizes. If you can afford it, I would spring for a pair of Propet walking shoes (they come in larger sizes--I'm an 11WW). They have a lot of support. Oh, God, I never thought I'd be recommending shoes because they have support! I'm so OLD.

I'm so sorry you're in so much pain! *hugs* *offers ibuprofen and glass of sangria*

My feet get really sore from standing, and it's hard not to blame my weight. Until I started working Fashion Week, and talked to the guards, who aren't overweight, and discovered their feet were killing them from day one.

*looks up what sangria is* Oooh yummy!

I went to the propet website as well, and those look nice! It's interesting that they only go to 11XX in women's and 15XX in men's.

I'm sick and brainfried right now but lemme tell you I completely understand. When I was working at Safeway all those years. Even then next morning your feet hurt!

If there's any way you can find a job doing anything else, I would recommend that over this! Good luck!
