Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3 Chapter 4 Chapter 5 Chapter 6

Ville woke up when someone poked him in the ribs and said something. What had been said didn’t register into Ville’s brain because he was still half asleep, but when the poking came back he opened one bleary eye looked up and saw one of his girls staring down at him.

He blinked a couple of times until the view because clearer. Most of the kids in his, Linde’s and Mige’s group were standing around his bed and staring at him weirdly quiet.

“What is it?” he asked and sat up feeling weirded out by all of this uncharacteristic behavior.

One of the boys spoke up. “Didn’t you hear what Heidi said? We think that Pekka is really sick. He was complaining about his stomach ache last night, but its gotten worse now. We thought we should wake you up, and we are already late for breakfast. You didn’t come wake us up.”

Ville rubbed his eyes and squinted at the clock. It really was already eight and he should have taken everyone to eat already. “I must have forgotten to set the alarm. Everyone go to breakfast, Karoliina you are in charge. If you see either of the Mikko’s at the mess hall tell them what’s going on. Is there someone who is friends with Pekka?” Ville asked and got up, not noticing the looks that many of the girls were giving his boxer clad appearance.

One of the younger boys lifted their arm and Ville nodded. “You stay with me. What are you waiting for, go eat.” He prompted the others and they obeyed even though many of them looked back worriedly and didn’t seem to want to go at all.

Ville pulled his pants from yesterday on and followed the small boy to the boys room, which already had the certain aroma that you get when ten boys live together for a while. Ville walked to the only bed that still had someone in it and kneeled next to the bed and was now face to face with its occupant.

The boy had been crying; Ville could see that from his red and puffy eyes and the lines on his cheeks where the tears had flowed. Ville rested his hand on the boys’ forehead and noted that it was hot. “So Pekka, where does it hurt?” he asked.

The boy, who was most likely around thirteen licked his lips before managing to answer. “My stomach, its really bad.”

Ville nodded and looked over his shoulder to Pekka’s friend. “You stay here, I’ll be right back.” He promised to both scared boys and got up to his feet and walked out.

When he got out of their barrack Ville raked his hands through his messy hair. What had there been about medical emergencies in the book of rules? Where was he supposed to go for help? He was pretty sure that Pekka’s appendix was inflamed because he had seen the same thing happen to his little brother. This was way too serious shit for him!

When his breathing started to get labored Ville realized that he was panicking and making himself have an asthma attach, and that was the last thing anyone needed right now. Ville took some calming breaths and took a puff from his inhaler before he started to walk briskly towards the main building where the adults had their offices.

*********************

Bam was sitting at the breakfast table with some of his skater kids when he saw Karoliina and the other kids from Ville’s group walk in. Bam perked because he already missed Ville even though they had seen each other last night when Bam had walked Ville to the barrack, where Ville had kept his promise and given him a proper kiss in the shadow of the building. Which had made Bam grin the whole way back to his room where Dunn had asked what was wrong with him.

But now he couldn’t see Ville anywhere. Bam frowned and scanned the crowd but his first impression had been correct, Ville wasn’t there. When the Finnish kids took their trays and scattered to different tables Bam waved at Karoliina and got the girls attention finally. Karoliina started to walk towards him making some of the boys in Bam's table start whispering and horsing around, but Bam ignored this.

Karoliina placed her tray next to Bam’s and scooted to sit on the long bench ignoring the fact that the rest of the boys had to sit side to side after they made room for her. “Morning Bam, what was with the waving? Not that I don’t appreciate being the center of attention once and a while, but you do realize that every girl in camp will be bombing me with questions after this?” She seemed a bit annoyed by this.

“What are you talking about?” Bam asked the questions about Ville forgotten for the time being.

“You can’t be that thick? Every girl in camp has a crush on you.” When Karoliina saw the horrified look on Bam’s face she started to giggle and continued.

“On you and most of the counselors who look even half decent. But you and Ville are among the most popular boys to gossip about.”

Bam blinked a couple of times and looked around the mess hall and saw that there were many curious eyes directed their way. Bam could feel the cursed blush beginning to climb onto his face so Bam buried his face to his coffee cup and then whispered to Katariina. “Can’t you make them stop?”

Karoliina laughed and whispered to Bam so that nobody else in their table could hear her. “Well yeah, if you want. I could tell them that you only have eyes for one person and that the person is Ville. But that would just start different kinds of rumors and attention.”

Bam glowered at Karoliina and bit into his toast trying to ignore the girl smirking next to him, but then Karoliina seemed to remember why she’d come there in the first place and asked. “Why’d you ask me here anyway? You looked worried.”

That made Bam remember Ville as well so he asked. “Why isn’t Ville here? I mean isn’t he supposed to escort you here?”

Karoliina smiled again teasingly but didn’t say anything about Bam's obsession, which made Bam feel grateful. “This boy from our group is sick, Ville had to stay there to take care of him.” Karoliina explained and slurped some of her cereal into her mouth and didn’t seem too worried so Bam nodded. What else could he have done? Of course he had been looking forward to seeing Ville again, but now he’d just have to wait until this afternoon when they had some free time.

So Bam just finished his piece of toast and then looked at his boys. “Come on, how long are you going to eat? We need to get to the ramp before it’s too hot and you pansies start moaning and bitching ‘bout the heat.” It had taken a lot for Bam to try clean up his language and he felt proud of himself and just grinned when the boys complained but started to get up and ready anyway.

Karoliina stopped Bam by holding the hem of his t-shirt and frowned at Bam’s tray. “What did you eat for breakfast?”

Bam looked down at the sitting girl and said. “What do you mean? I had toast and coffee. You are so weird at times.” And walked off. He needed to feel the board under his feet.

***********************

Ville was sitting on the teacher’s desk because he felt weird if he tried to sit behind it, like he was supposed to be a grown up or something. He and the rest of his group were listening to Amy sing the song she had written after last class when Ville had been talking about different genres of music and had played five different love songs from totally different bands and styles of music.

Now it seemed that at least three of the girls had made new songs. At the moment Ville was trying not to cringe as he listened to Amy sing about love. She was fourteen, what could she know? Ville thought in the mature age of nineteen. Also Ville noticed that Amy’s song had a lot in common with one Madonna song and when she sat down looking proud of herself Ville bought himself time by saying. “Okay what did everyone think? Remember that we don’t criticize anyone personally, try to make it constructive and helpful okay?”

Sophie, one of the older girls, was the first to open her mouth. Ville didn’t really like her because she had a way to sniping at everyone and because she seemed to have a crush on him, which made Ville feel very uncomfortable. “Amy your song wasn’t very original, now was it? It was obviously a copy of Forbidden love.”

Amy started to argue against the accusation and the rest of the girls seemed interested to see which would come out the winner. Ville sighed and stepped in. “Come on girls, try to act like you have manners, okay?”

Both girls looked like they wanted to argue more, and Sophie looked like she wanted to say something nasty to Ville as well, but then the brunette girl reigned herself in and just lifted her cute nose up in the air. Ville hid a smile and turned to Brianna who looked like the stereotypical Scot with her flaming red hair and strong accent. “What about you Bri? Have a song for us?”

Brianna nodded and walked to the piano. “I haven’t had time to practice on it much because of the stupid rules that say we can’t come here to play when we want to.” She complained but started to play very smoothly anyway. It sounded like a traditional ballad of some kind but it was much, much better than what Amy had come up with.

When Bri walked back to her seat beaming, Ville asked the other girls for comments again. This time things went more smoothly, and the third girl had her chance to shine as well.

They were having a discussion about lyrics ,and Ville had just asked the girls to come up with their favorite lyrics for tomorrow so they could analyze them together, when Ville started to notice that he didn’t have the whole attention of his class anymore.

He looked over his shoulder and saw Bam waving at him through the window. Ville grinned and waved back at the skater, who was still holding his board and looked sweaty and tired, but happy, making Ville wish he could just grab Bam and kiss him silly. Instead he walked to the window and opened it. “What’s up BamBam?”

Bam grinned widely and walked a bit closer so he didn’t have to shout. “Just got out off my class and I thought I’d come see if you were finished.”

“No, not done here yet, I’ll take about fifteen minutes.” Ville said and grimaced because the girls couldn’t see his expression.

Bam laughed. “Okay I’ll just head for the pool anyway, meet you there?”

Ville nodded. “Sure, now scramble off and stop interrupting my class.”

Bam grinned and waved at the girls who suddenly tried to act like they hadn’t been staring just a moment ago. “Bye then.” He said and sauntered off making it hard for Ville to turn away from the sight.

Ville sighed closed the window and walked back to the desk and hopped on it. “Sorry about that. Never can tell what that American boy comes up with next.”

Most of the girls laughed but Dana huffed. “What do you have against American’s? I’m American as well.”

Ville smiled. “I have nothing against you, why’d I have come here if I didn’t like you?”

Dana blushed and Ville wished that he would have phrased that better. He changed the subject quickly. “So are we clear what I need to do for tomorrow?”

Some of the girls complained that they didn’t remember their favorite lyrics by heart, and that tomorrow was too soon. But Ville insisted that they pick something they could remember, then they could discuss why they had remembered those lyrics in particular. Finally the kids walked out and Ville was free to chase after Bam.

**********************

Bam had thrown his board in the room and changed into his swimming trunks frowning at his stomach; why wasn’t he getting skinnier? But then Bam just decided to ignore his weight for the moment, grabbed his towel and jogged to the pool.

A lot of people were hanging at the pool but because it was a huge Olympic length everyone could fit in and still move around. Bam shooed one kid off a lounge chair and laid down. He was going to swim soon, but right now Bam wanted to rest a bit. His calves were quivering after skating for hours on end and it felt good to rest them a bit.

Bam had closed his eyes and was feeling ready to just fall asleep when someone came to stand between the sun and Bam, so his face was left in the shadow. Bam opened his eyes ready to lash out when he saw that it was Jake. “Oh hi man.” Bam said feeling a bit unsure about himself. Jake who had tanned to an impressive bronze color grinned at Bam and sat next to Bam’s legs.

“Hi Bam. Haven’t seen you around lately, what’s been going on?”

Bam frowned, why was he getting an odd vibe from Jake? Before this he’d considered Jake as one of his friends, but right now Bam felt really uncomfortable laying down so he sat up and answered. “Well I guess I’ve been busy, and then there was the trip to San Fran yesterday.”

Jake seemed to relax and smiled again. “Oh that sounds nice. I’m going there next week, did you have a good time?”

Bam nodded and started to explain what they had done there, well of course editing some parts out, when he noticed that Karoliina was standing on the other side of the pool and was frowning at Bam. Bam mouthed “what?” to her but she just shook her head disapprovingly and walked away when Jake turned to look at her as well.

“Is she your girlfriend?” Jake asked as they both watched her walk away.

Bam laughed feeling scandalized at the suggestion. “No! of course not.”

Jake turned to Bam and asked smiling. “Why not? She’s a good looking girl.”

Bam felt uncomfortable again, it was like Jake meant other things than he actually was saying, and all this subtext was driving Bam insane, because maybe there was no subtext and he was just paranoid?

“Uh, she’s a bit young for me, and we’re friends.” Bam answered truthfully, only leaving out the part that he had a huge crush on a guy.

“So you are single then?” Jake asked and now Bam started to squirm in his seat because… what was this?

********************

Ville was changing his clothes in the room when Karoliina burst in making Ville pull his swimming trunks up really fast. “What the hell Karo? Are you insane? Knock like a normal person.” Ville complained and turned to frown at her.

Karoliina ignored Ville’s annoyance and went right to her point. “You should haul ass to the pool right now before your boyfriend gets stolen.”

Ville gaped at her for a moment before he made out. “What?”

Karoliina planted her hands to her hips and huffed. “That pool guard guy was totally hitting on Bam when I was there. And Bam is so oblivious to everything that he didn’t have any idea what was going on.”

Now Ville started to pay attention and walked to the door with Karoliina following him. “Do you mean Jake, that blond guy? Pretty good looking, if you go for that surfer thing.”

“Yeah that sounds like him.” Karoliina confirmed, and Ville started to walk a bit faster. Not that he was worried or anything, the pool was filled with people but still, only Ville was allowed to flirt with Bam. Ville decided to ignore this very possessive thought for now and think about it later when he didn’t have to worry about skanky pool boys stealing his Bam.

When they got to the pool it took Ville a moment to locate Bam, because it seemed that most of the kids were spending time here. Finally Ville spotted the familiar shape sitting on one of the cheap plastic chairs opposite Jake. Ville’s eyes narrowed because Jake was sitting way too close to Bam, almost invading the skaters personal space, he was leaning closer to Bam obviously to be heard over the shouting of dozens of kids but that was an excuse.

Ville nodded to Karoliina, who gave him the two thumbs up, before walking to her friends while Ville made his way to Bam and Jake. He came to a stop so he was looming over them both and said. “Here you are Bam, sorry that it took me so long to get here, did you have to wait long?”

Bam looked up to Ville and smiled brightly and seemed relieved that Ville was there so Ville decided that Bam really had had no clue to what Jake was doing. “Hi Ville, no I haven’t been here that long, and you know Jake has been talking with me while I waited.” Bam said and got to his feet.

Jake stood up as well and Ville had the smug satisfaction to realize that he was taller than Jake. “Where are you going Bam, I thought we were talking here.” The blond protested and gave the evil eye to Ville.

Ville grinned and had to control himself so that he wouldn’t wrap his arm around Bam, as Bam had come to stand right by his side so that now it was the two of them against Jake.

Bam seemed uncomfortable and said. “Well I had plans to spend this free period with Ville.”

Ville smiled even wider when Jake seemed to realize that he’d lost his chance and that Bam was going with Ville. “Okay then Bam, but come by again when you don’t have plans.” And Jake gave Ville a murderous look before he walked away.

“Sore loser.” Ville chuckled.

“What?” Bam asked and turned to look at Ville seeming confused.

Ville tried to come up with a way to explain what had happened when Bam’s eyes grew wide and he looked after Jake. “That’s what happened with you and the guy in the ferry, except now I was you. He was flirting with me, wasn’t he?” this last part Bam whispered making sure that nobody could listen.

Ville nodded, but before he had the chance to say anything Bam continued. “What did you mean by ‘sore loser’? You’d better not have meant that I’m some sort of prize you just fought over.” And now Bam looked almost angry and Ville knew he was in trouble, because Bam was feeling weird about his sexuality already he wouldn’t like to think that he’d been put into the position that was usually reserved for girls.

Ville tried to think really fast. “I didn’t mean that. I was just saying that he lost because you chose me, so I was the winner because of that.”

Bam looked suspicious but then nodded. “Okay what ever, lets go swimming now, I feel all dirty after all this shit.” Ville agreed to the plan even though he didn’t like to swim that much, and especially not when there was so many people around, but they climbed into the pool anyway. Bam turned to Ville and smiled. “I missed you at breakfast. Karoliina said that someone was sick?”

Ville sighed and nodded. “Yeah, this one kid was taken to the hospital, they think he needs surgery to remove his appendix. Not the best way to start the day I tell you.” He admitted and tilted his head back so his hair got wet, then he raked his fingers through it only to notice Bam staring. “What?” he asked smiling because he liked when Bam looked at him like that.

Bam looked around then and then leaned closer and whispered. “You just look so good, I just want to kiss you.”

Ville grinned happily. “I had the same problem when you came by the class earlier.”

Bam blushed prettily and Ville wondered about what he could do to make that last longer. All sorts of ideas came to mind but it was better not to think about any of those in the public pool or he might have trouble getting out of the water.

*******************

After the free time was over Ville and Bam walked to their room and went to take showers separately because they both knew it wouldn’t work if they tried to do it at the same time. When Ville was showering Ryan walked in and took the shower next to Ville and smirked at the Finn. “Trish’s friends are going to have a horror story night with their kids so that means we get the room all to ourselves.”

Ville laughed. “Have big plans then?” he asked teasingly.

“You betcha. I have the worst case off blue balls, Trish is the worst sort of tease, but she’s promised to make up for all that tonight.” Ryan smiled happily and tilted his ginger hair under the water.

Then it hit Ville. This meant that he and Bam had the room all to themselves as well. Ville lathered his hair thoughtfully only half listening to Ryan who couldn’t seem to shut up about Trish, but Ville’s thoughts were on Bam.

Would Bam freak? They hadn’t ever been alone together longer than the short while at the mall. Ville really wanted to kiss Bam properly and touch that body he’d been thinking about constantly for the past week. But he knew that Bam most likely wouldn’t want that. Ville finished his shower and left after wishing Ryan good luck with getting laid.

Bam had already changed to clean clothes and was sitting on his bed listening to something on his walkman but when Ville came in Bam first stared, then blushed and looked away really quick. “Do-do you want me to go while you change?” he asked nervously and pulled the headphones off his ears.

Ville smiled fondly and said. “You don’t have to, but you can if you want to.” He offered because he didn’t want to make Bam uncomfortable.

“Um I’ll stay but…” Bam said trailing off vaguely and turned his back to Ville. Ville grinned and wanted to go hug the shy boy but thought that might give the wrong impression because he was just wearing a towel, so Ville just threw the towel over a chair back so it would dry and took out some clothes. He chose a Hanoi Rocks shirt because it was old and comfortable and pulled his jeans back on after clean boxers, then he turned to Bam and asked. “Did you peak?”

Bam blushed and said. “Maybe, just a little bit.”

Ville couldn’t resist the urge anymore but walked to Bam and hugged the shorter boy tightly, laughing softly into his ear, before he kissed Bam’s lips quickly. He was going to kiss him again but there was a knock on the door and Mige shouted through it. “Come on! We want to have some dinner before we have to bond again.”

Ville and Bam separated both laughing at Mige’s words. They called the evening program bonding because the adults seemed to want to make everyone be friends with everyone so they always had to play different sort of games all of which were planned so that people would get to know each other better. It had gotten old after two nights.

They joined Mige and Linde and walked to dinner together. Only when they were standing in line waiting for their turn to get food Ville remembered that he hadn’t told Bam about Ryan’s plans and how it would be just the two of them in the room that night.
