rude!

The conversation is dead. It expired the moment the BlackBerry first vibrated. Now all that you, the former half of two communicating people, can do is awkwardly stand there and deal with the fact that you are less engaging than a five-ounce piece of plastic.

Dear jesus I just got into a fight with a friend and this was one of the big arguments. Her and another girl both have this problem... I'll invite them both over for a party and they'll find far off corners to slouch down in and sit on their laptops and webcam with someone 1000 miles away and just complain about what a bad time they are having! Just drives me so mad, if you just closed it or didn't bring it and talked to people there who came to see you too, maybe you wouldnt be making yourself have such a lousy time ( ... )

hahaha omg that just sounds so sad. why is connecting with someone through a device superseding face to face connections? i don't get it.

i mostly use LJ, i barely log into FB and I don't have twitter or myspace and i barely use my phone, i might use it like 3 or 4 times a week max and barely ever text message so i'm glad i'm not as attached to the matrix hahaah XD omg that movie will totally come true one day :/

Yea, the worst part is I can't even seem to make her understand my side of the argument and why it bothers me, she completely doesn't get what she's doing, all the important stuff is digital to her. Truly sadness.

dude same situation when i first brought it up with my boyfriend, he thought it was so weird that i would be bothered by that. i was like W T F? we're trying to have dinner and a conversation and spend alone time, why are you texting?

it just needs explaining, finally i told him, look i'm just trying to spend quality time with you, i want to be your main focus because during the week you have so much else going on and this is the only time we spend together. and finally he got it, but he was like totally offended when i first brought it up lol.

people are getting too busy texting and twittering about what they're doing to actually enjoy and live those moments.

One of my best friends has a crackberry and we were at dinner (i think) with another good friend and SHE WOULD NOT PUT IT DOWN.

We just grabbed it from her and refused to give it back. She was like NO I NEED IT YOU GUYS IM ALMOST DONE PLEASE GIVE IT BACK! and we refused til the end of dinner or whatever it was we were doing

hahaha omg blackberries have ruined socializing!! its just so weird, like i guess people are just thinking they're engaging in two different types of conversations, but if you're the victim you feel so excluded because their eyes and attention are not on you. its very isolating specially on one and one situations.

yes x_x
A friend of mine does this sometimes, but she at least understands it's rude and will apologize and put it away when one of us gives her "the look" about it, lol.
It must be so frustrating if the offending party doesn't get that what they're doing is rude.

yea they were quite a few comments on the jezebel posts about boyfriends who do it constantly! even in bed! these women need to say something instead of seething in silence, i tried that for a while and finally i just exploded lol.

its like these people never lived in a era before cellphones and texting and have thrown out all the manners they learned, or maybe they never had them in the first place.

Lol, don't move to Seattle. Everyone does it here. Part of it is just that people are basically always on call for work.

And I thought wow...have people really forgotten what basic human contact is?

i think its gonna get worse in the future. i end up staring at the screen a lot for my job so now i don't wanna do it that much in my leisure time and its getting so nice out i crave to be in parks and lay on the grass haha.
